Our Wedding

Timing is everything and that was definitely the case for us. When we first met, we instantly clicked and flowed together seamlessly. We talked, laughed, and joked like we’d known each other for years (as cliché as that sounds). We dated for a few months, and everything seemed great but, as we’ve learned, God’s timing wasn’t quite ready for us yet. Raquel likes to tell people “we” broke up, but let’s be honest: I’d have to be crazy to break up with someone so beautiful and kind-hearted. The only way we were splitting up was if she ended things and, well, that’s what happened. Fortunately for me, I stayed in touch with Raquel’s sister (Rebeca) and would occasionally (and not-so-subtly) ask how she was doing. I probably wasn’t as smooth as I hoped to be, but when you’re head over heels, it’s hard not to make a fool of yourself. Eventually, God heard my prayers and decided to show just how good and full of grace He is even to someone like me. One day, Raquel got some surprising news that caused her intense chest pain. In a moment of panic, overthinking, and worrying that she might be having a heart attack, her sister played matchmaker and suggested she call their friendly neighborhood nurse me. Keep in mind, we hadn’t spoken in a long time. You might think I’d play it cool when I saw her name pop up on my phone while I was at work… I think I answered after the first ring. Good news: she wasn’t having a heart attack. But mine definitely skipped a few beats. From that point on, everything began to fall into place. We pretended to be “just friends” for a few weeks, but we both knew better. We could already sense the story God had written for us. On our very first date, during a moment of laughter, Raquel accidentally let the words “I love you” slip out. It might’ve scared some people off but not me. What she didn’t know was that earlier during that same date, I had texted a friend saying, “I’m on a date with a girl who’s a mom and I think I’m in love.” Did we truly, deeply love each other after one date? Who’s to say. But I believe God placed it in both of our hearts to recognize each other’s souls and to catch a glimpse of the future He had planned. We’ve been growing together ever since, learning new ways to love each other every single day.
