Logistics
How do I know if I have been invited?
Lori or Jake will have reached out to you directly and you would have received our digital Save the Date card. If you are unsure, email Lori or Jake directly. If you want to come, reach out to us directly.
How do I RSVP?
Click on the RSVP page of this website and type in your name. Your digital invitation to the events should come up. If it doesn't, message or email Lori directly.
When is the latest I can RSVP?
Because we are having a micro wedding with a maximum of 30 guests, we'd like an RSVP as soon as possible, especially if you know you can't make it. We had to be especially choosy with our guest list and would love to offer your spot to other friends and family if you can't make it.
But if you really need a hard and fast date to RSVP by, please do so by October 1, 2025.
Do I need a visa to travel to South Africa?
Not if you are traveling on an American or South African passport. For anyone who may be traveling with a Chinese passport, you will need to apply for a visa into South Africa.
What about my phone?
Travelers can purchase a temporary SIM card upon arrival at the airport but your phone must be unlocked by your service provider prior to traveling. Alternatively, you can contact your mobile plan provider before traveling and see about adding an international plan temporarily. Lori has an international plan with T-Mobile and uses her American phone when she is in South Africa.
How do we get the weekend wedding location from the airport?
If possible, Jake and I will collect you from the airport in George. In the event that we cannot make it, we can try arrange to have someone pick you up. Alternatively, we have two taxi services listed on the Coming to South Africa page of this website. Also, Uber works in South Africa as long as you have the APP on your phone. Fees will be given in South African Rand, but deducted from your payment method in your country's currency.
What are the accommodation options?
There are a number of accommodations available. Please see our recommendation on the Coming to South Africa link on this website.
When do we check in and out?
You can check into your accommodation when you arrive. If you are planning on spending the week with us, it is advised that you arrive in South Africa on Thursday, July 17. Jake, Lori, and immediate family will check into the venue accommodations on Friday, July 18. We are planning on checking out of the venue accommodations on Monday, July 21 and caravanning back to Cape Town.
What about those of us who cannot come, but want to see the wedding anyway?
We will do our best to open up a Zoom link or Live Stream the wedding for our friends and family who aren't in the area. We need to discuss this with the venue and see what the possibilities are.
Money
Will my credit/debit card work in South Africa?
Yes. Most American banks have fraud protection and if you are traveling outside of the U.S., it is advised to inform your bank of your travel plans so that your purchase is not declined.
Should I exchange my usual currency for South African rand?
You can. Airports may have a higher exchange rate, but they are typically the safest place to make the exchange. Also, you don't need to. Credit and debit cards work abroad. For those of you coming from China, I know that the Bank of China Union Pay works.
What is the exchange rate?
This depends on your country, but typically USD and RMB go very far in South Africa. It may be a bit expensive to fly to South Africa, but once you are in the country, it is quite inexpensive to do things here.
We just spent a bunch of money to come to your wedding weekend. Are gifts required?
Short answer: No.
Longer Answer: Thank you very much for the expense to come be with us on our special day. Jake and Lori are spending a bunch of money on your experience and are happy to do so. Gifts are absolutely not required, but if you would like to contribute to our Honeymoon Fund, that would be so appreciated. Any amount is wonderful and can be given by clicking the Registry page of this website.
Activities
What is a Micro Wedding?
A micro wedding is like a traditional wedding, except with much fewer guests. To have the wedding that we want, in the budget we want to spend, we have opted to invite less people so we can have more fun.
Do I have to participate in every event during the weekend?
No. The Friday Welcome Dinner, Saturday Wedding, and Sunday Funday are all listed as seperate events. RSVP to one or all.
What is the wedding dress code?
This is an outdoor wedding in the South African summer. The temp ranges from a high between 75 and 90 degrees F during the day to 60 degrees F at night.
The wedding is taking place in a forest. The ground is covered with wood chips or dirt. We will bring in a dance floor, but I would recommend that ladies avoid high heels.
This is a VALENTINE'S DAY wedding. Come dressed in LOVE and sensible shoes. You can email Lori directly if you have any questions about your outfit.
How about the food?
Our caters are putting together a Bespoke menu for our wedding. The menu will be finalized in December. There will be vegan options. The Welcome Dinner is TBD, but we are thinking pizza (Lori's favorite) and sushi (Jake's favorite). Depending on the numbers for Sunday Funday, we may do a traditional South African Braai (Bar-B-Que for you Americans).
