Depending on what time you are coming into town, you will be catching the tail end of SXSW. There will be tons of music to see around this time of year we recommend checking out DO512.com to see what events are going on around the city!
Austin is famous for the bats that live under the Congress Bridge! There are 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats that roost under the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge that comprise the largest urban bat colony! You can take a walk on the Roy and Anne Butler Hike and Bike Trail and see them from the ground for free , or you can buy a $12 ticket and go on a cruise down Lady Bird Lake at sun set (this will be at 7pm while your are going to be in town). We think that the cruise is definitely worth the money, you get a much better view of the bats, great views of downtown, and it is BYOB if you are interested. You will need to book this in advance! Tickets will sell out!
Conor , Lorianna, Duke, Karen and Dees went last summer and had a great time!
Paddling down Lady Bird Lake is a popular activity in Austin! You can get a little exercise and get a great view of downtown and the hill side from the lake. Make sure to check groupon for great deals on kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and canoes!
Here are a few of our favorite trails around Austin
Roy and Anne Butler Hike and Bike Trail - This is a 10 mile trail around Lady Bird Lake. You can walk a couple miles or go see our friends at Cycle East and rent a bike and ride the whole thing!
Mount Bonnell - This hike is pretty short, but you get a great overlook view of Lake Austin and the Texas Hill Country.
Turkey Creek - This trail is about 30 minutes from downtown in Emma Long City Park. It is 2.8 miles in and back along Turkey Creek.
