Lucas and I first met in 7th grade at Mountain Grove Middle School. We became friends through mutual friends and had a few classes together. During 7th-9th grade Lucas went back and forth between Mountain Grove Schools and Rogersville Schools. However, after the 1st semester of our Freshman year, Lucas decided to stay in Rogersville and finish up high school there. We lost touch for a little while, but during the spring of our Sophomore year we ran into each other at a FFA Contest. After seeing each other at the C of O FFA contest, we started talking and getting to know each other.
In June of 2019, Lucas and I hung out for the first at the Tri-County Fair Rodeo in Mountain Grove. We shared lots of laughs that night and good conversation catching up with one another. We weren’t able to hang out again for a few weeks until a random Wednesday afternoon Lucas asked me if I wanted to hangout and go drive around backroads. Of course I said yes, and we met up after I got out of my summer school class. We had the best time driving around aimlessly, talking, laughing, and listening to good music. After that night Lucas and I hung out more and more.
A few weeks go by quickly, and Lucas asks me to be his girlfriend. We were driving to Rogersville to go to his trap practice, and when picked me up he surprised me with a Raspberry Peace Tea (my favorite) and a note that said “All my love and affection,” and then he said to me, “Will you be my girlfriend?”. Now Lucas will tell you that I said no, but I actually said, “Yes, but… you have to talk to my dad first.” Ugh. I was so embarrassed! But, Lucas took a breath and said, “Okay, I can do that”.
A few weeks after Lucas asked me to be his girlfriend, the first time, my oldest brother Garrett and his girlfriend (now wife) Holly came home to visit before they had to go back to college in Illinois. We decided to go on a family float trip that weekend, and I remember both of my brothers trying to get Lucas to talk to my dad on the way down to the river, but thankfully Lucas was smart and finally talked to my dad in private after we got back to the house from floating. On Sunday, August 4, 2019 Lucas asked me to be his girlfriend, again. Of course I said yes, for real this time, and we have been together ever since.
Like with every young relationship, we had a few bumps in the road, but we have worked through everything together and never gave up on one another. We have put God in the center of our relationship and will continue to trust in him in everything we do. We wouldn’t have it any other way, and it has been a privilege to watch each other grow over the years. Lucas and I are so excited to come together as one and have our families and friends there to celebrate with us. We are both so excited to see what all God has in store for us. “Therefore what God has joined, let no one separate.” Mark 10:9.
Thank you for reading our story! We look forward to seeing you on our big day!!
