Our Wedding

Mackenzie and Franklin's story began at Winskill Aquatic &amp; Fitness Centre in the heart of Tsawwassen, BC, where they both worked as lifeguards and became fast friends. In the Summer of 2017, there was an emergency at the pool while Mackenzie was on shift. Everyone turned out to be fine (phew!) but she was a bit shaken up. Franklin offered to bring his dogs - Guinness and Benny - over to Winskill's field to hangout for a bit. After spending the afternoon together, they planned a hike to Alouette Lake the next week. For this hike, Mackenzie packed what Franklin would later describe as the "perfect combination of healthy and unhealthy snacks", where he claims he knew she was "the one". The rest was history! Since then, Mackenzie and Franklin have graduated from the University of British Columbia, adopted their beloved dog Bean in 2020, moved into their first apartment together in New Westminster in 2021 and in 2023, moved to Burnaby where they bought their first condo! For anyone that knows Mackenzie and Franklin, you know they adore travelling and spend any free time and income on adventuring! Franklin the planner, Mackenzie the passenger princess. They have been so lucky to have visited many countries together in their 8+ years as a couple - once they realized they (Franklin) could navigate the JR Rail line without (much) argument, they knew they could tackle anything together. Now, Mackenzie works in fundraising at BC Children's Hospital Foundation and Franklin works as an Energy Advisor for Capital Home Energy. On any given weekend, rain or shine, you can find them exploring all the nature that beautiful British Columbia has to offer with their pup Bean and you can always bet on a stop at a local brewery on the way home. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy lives to come to our wedding! We are so excited to celebrate the beginning of this next chapter - with you!

Airport Information

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is located in Richmond, BC at 3211 Grant McConachie Wy. From YVR, there are a few different transportation options! It is an easy 35 minute skytrain to downtown Vancouver, hopping on the Canada Line towards Waterfront. If you're staying in North Vancouver, where our venue is located, enjoy a 20 minute Seabus ride that brings you from Waterfront Station to Lonsdale Quay. More information on public transportation from YVR airport can be found <a href="https://www.yvr.ca/en/passengers/transportation/public-transportation" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">here</a>. Using Google Maps is a great way to determine which option makes most sense for you as it provides car, transit and even bike options for all routes. Vancouver also has Uber, Lyft &amp; taxis which are all located outside of Arrivals when exiting YVR. *Please note that Uber, Lyft or Taxi options will take a similar amount of time as the Skytrain (or longer!) depending on time of day. If arriving during rush hour - Monday to Friday 7:30am-9:30am or 3:30pm-6pm, we would strongly recommend taking the Skytrain! But of course, do what is best and most comfortable for you!

Where to stay

Our venue, Grouse Mountain, is 20 minutes by car from Downtown Vancouver, 40 minutes by public transit (including a beautiful ride on the SeaBus!). Want to show up with a real appetite? We invite you to take the stairs! Kidding! Gondola rides both ways are included, but feel free to come early if you want to make the most of the mountain and its many activities.

The Grouse Grind

Go for a swim at Vancouver's famous Kitsilano Outdoor Pool. Under the watchful eye Vancouver's premier lifeguards, say hi to Mackenzie's former coworkers (they'll know her, trust me she's a legend), at the longest outdoor pool in North America. Next door, is The Local which serves up a mean Caesar and delicious fish tacos. Hide your fries though, the seagulls don't mess around.

Kitsilano Pool

Relive Mackenzie and Franklin's first dinner date, at the Eatery. For complete authenticity, someone has to spill soy sauce on their shirt, and dessert needs to be at Rain or Shine Ice Cream.

The Eatery

Enjoy a 2.5km (one-way) walk between our two favorite beaches in the city. If you're game, stop at Jericho Beach Kayak Centre, where Franklin spent a summer as a beach bum and go for a paddle! Head out for sunset, if you can! Available for rent is our dog, Bean, for the afternoon - she's quite fond of the area, especially at low tide.

Rent a bike at Spokes Bicycle Rentals, to re-enact Franklin and Mackenzie's 18th date! Bring along some goodies for a picnic at Third Beach, and bike the Stanley Park Seawall (counter-clockwise, of course). Please share pictures, especially if you opt in for a tandem bike.

Enjoy an afternoon at Vancouver's iconic Granville Island. Check out an improv show, eat incredible seafood at The Sandbar, explore the public market, marvel at the cement plant that's somehow still there, and pamper yourself at Circle Wellness Spa. Extra points if you take the Aquabus - of course. Oh, and if you thought the seagulls at Kits Pool were bad, wait 'til you see these beasts.

Explore Granville Island

Dog mountain hike (5km round trip) from the top of Mount Seymour Resort, offers the best bang-for-buck view in the Lower Mainland, if you ask us. Check the weather before heading out as clouds will block the view on overcast days! We've made this mistake many times before...but it was still a great workout!
