After knowing each other for about two weeks, Steven and Madeleine were last-minute dates in a COVID backyard senior prom.

On Steven's same visit to Wenatchee, Mrs. Canlis thankfully often assigned Steven to cook meals with Madeleine.

Swooping in for an innocent side hug, Steven played it off as just tagging along with his best friend, Chapman, there to support his sister.

The Canlis family welcomed Steven into their many wonderful family traditions (notice Madeleine not-so-subtly wearing Steven's sweatshirt).

While they didn't see each other much during 2021, Madeleine made sure to keep tabs on Steven.

After a hiatus of two years, Madeleine led Steven (and her siblings) through Spain after studying abroad in León.

Madeleine receives a letter from Steven in which he finally confesses his feelings for her. Naturally, her 15 house mates all read it with her.

After an attempted setup by some clever grandparents and some romantic letter writing, Madeleine and Steven reunited at Caleb Crother's wedding! Steven had lost 30 pounds in Ecuador (as evidenced by this photo), but that wasn't enough to prevent their first kiss at the wedding!

Within a month, they were on their first date! (They owe this photo to a nice Irishman who demanded that they take a photo together. Thanks Mr. O'Something!)

Before long, Steven had moved to Seattle, and they attended many UW events together!

One of their better photos features farmers Kaylee and Madeleine with their very cute farm animals on Halloween night.

The Zichichi family did their own wonderful welcoming of Madeleine into their wine country lives.

The couple still hasn't quite figured out how to pose for photographs.

But by the time Madeleine graduated, Chapman was understandably worried that Steven might be pulling her away from him.

Madeleine and Steven traveled together to Ecuador where Steven lived for a year! His Ecuadorian friends quickly fell in love with Madeleine (who wouldn't?).

Madeleine tried to teach Steven to roller blade, but it turns out he may not be that teachable (despite his being a teacher).

And now they are engaged (and well-celebrated by their families and friends)!
