I don't think either of us ever expected to truly find THE one while searching through dating apps. We both never knew why were drawn back to scrolling on those darn apps. Little did we know it was Gods way of helping us find each other. It was impossible for me (Maddie) to not fall in love on the first date. Shelby knew the way to my heart was guarded by a 6 month old crazy golden retriever named Burt . His solution was bringing home made dog treats to the first date in the shape of gingerbread men with homemade frosting... yeah he was a keeper in my mind. From then on we didn't go a single weekend without seeing each other. This meant hour long drives back and forth between Kalamazoo and Lansing, which neither of us minded. We packed our first year together full of camping, hiking, ski trips, national parks, boat trips, lake days and many long walks with the dogs. It was quickly evident for both of us that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with each other. After just a year, it felt like we had spent a lifetime together and we wanted it to continue forever. While Shelby may have not done the best job at keeping it a secret when he asked my parents for their blessing or when he bought the ring even though he tried (sorry!) he and my family were able to put together the most amazing proposal where I was completely oblivious. It was memorial weekend when my whole family was up at our family cottage with lots of aunts, uncles and cousins. We went for a dinner out and made a pitstop at Bayfront park in Petoskey. Right by the water, near the waterfall was a table with flowers along with both of our dogs and more homemade dogs treats, this time in the shape of a ring. It was there that he asked me to be his wife and made me the happiest person in the world.
