We are so excited to welcome our loved ones to Philadelphia, a city that holds so many special memories for us! Nate is from Bensalem, PA which is just past the city limits. Maddie met Nate in Philly for their second date "state-side" after their European travels, and quickly became a fan (of the city and the Eagles, rest assured).
We know some of our guests are traveling to Philadelphia for the first time, so we've compiled a travel guide to help you make the most of your visit. We hope you enjoy this special city as much as we do and are looking forward to making new memories all together the weekend of our wedding.
Check out our recs below!
Our venue is ideally located in the heart of Old City, right near Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, so if you want an easily accessible and iconic Philadelphia sight to check out - that would be our first stop! (P.S. - The Liberty Bell is free to view!)
Our next stop for those new to Philadelphia would be Reading Terminal Market, Philly's oldest public market with over 75 locally-owned business highlighting a variety of Philly & Pennsylvania dutch flavors (think cheesesteaks, pretzels, roast pork, Amish baked goods...!).
Of course a first visit to Philly wouldn't be complete without checking out the Philadelphia Museum of Art, home to the famous Rocky steps. If you're and art-lover and have the time we also suggest Philadelphia's Magic Gardens on South St.
Our first date in Philly ended with dinner and drinks on Market St. in Old City, so we'll always be partial to anything in that area! Just walk down Market (street where our welcome party is) towards the Delaware River and you'll be set. Fave spots include Old City Coffee, Luna Cafe, Franklin Fountain (ice cream), Sonny's (one of Nate's favorite cheesesteaks).
For Maddie's fave sandwich in the city head in the opposite direction to Middle Child - the shopsin club is a to-die-for turkey sandwich and what she ate when they toured the Downtown Club!
Since we're having a June wedding it's also only right you get a true "wooder" ice (Maddie's cringing while typing that). John's Water Ice is a classic establishment and right near the Italian Market.
If you're looking for something more upscale, Rittenhouse Square is home to some of Philly's finer dining and shopping. Maddie's a fan of Talula's Garden.
For any other recs check out Maddie's cousin's Instagram. Mike is the PA foodie.
