We hope that you are able to make lots of memories while you're in town for our wedding!

To help facilitate this hope, we put together some travel recommendations from locals. Below, you'll find information to observe some of the nature the region has to offer, as well as activities and sights in nearby cities.

Washington, D.C.

D.C. is a major city near the wedding venue that is a must-see while in town. Some popular activities in Washington, D.C. include: The National Mall, museums, the United States Capital, Georgetown and Old Town Alexandria (to name a few). D.C. has an easy metro system that will easily take you from place to place within the city (and suburbs in Maryland and Virginia!).

To make the most of a D.C. trip we recommend 3-4 days, with nature and restaurants sprinkled in:

Day 1- National Mall

Day 2- Smithsonian Museums

Day 3- Smithsonian Museums

Day 4- Capital Tour and Georgetown

The National Mall

There is a lot to see on the National Mall. If you’re short on time, or want to see the highlights make sure to hit the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and Jefferson Memorial. You can also take a tour; find the right one for you here!

Washington, D.C. Museums

The museums in D.C. can be quite large. Most of them are located within walking distance of one another in a long rectangle, but you might want to limit yourself to planning to see no more than 4 per day.

Georgetown

Georgetown is a quaint area of Washington, D.C. to walk around and try restaurants, shop, and enjoy views of the water. You can also learn more about Georgetown’s historic houses, tours, and the Canal here. Trust me and skip the famous Georgetown cupcakes and opt to try Baked and Wired for a pick me up while out and about.

Weather permitting, take a Canal tour of Georgetown!

Going Out in D.C.

After a day of museums, reserve a spot at the Vue for rooftop drinks and a night view of Washington, D.C.

Check out U Street for nightlife.

Give these restaurants a try!

A Drive Away

Old Town Alexandria is a fun place to spend the day walking, shopping, and dining in and among historic row homes. If you want to see some of Georgetown’s historic sites including Mount Vernon- George Washington’s House, the Key to Alexandria Pass might be a good option.
