The Venue

Paddy's Thatch Pub is situated on the shores of Lough Mask in Tourmakeady (Irish: Tuar Mhic Éadaigh), County Mayo. Also known locally--and on Instagram--as Tigh Phaidi (pronounced “T’chee Paddy” in the regional dialect), Paddy's is a storied building that has been featured on Irish trad music shows, and traces its history back to 1879. Expect a warm, intimate atmosphere, water views, and meats from local farms slow roasting on an open hearth.

The Town & Where to Stay

A Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking area), Tourmakeady is a small village located just a few miles inland of Westport, a picturesque coastal town skirting the shadow of the sacred mountain, Croagh Patrick (Irish: Cruach Phádraig). It has repeatedly won the designation of Best Place to Live in Ireland.

The venue will be running a shuttle to Westport after the wedding, and we recommend seeking accommodations in the vicinity. Especially if you plan on sampling the native libations; a single drink can land you in jail in Ireland if you're pulled over. There are plenty of hotels and Airbnb options in town. Tourmakeady, not so much.

Staying in Westport will also put you about half an hour away from the stunning vistas of Achill Island, and afford you direct access to the Wild Atlantic Way. If you're planning to explore the country before or after our wedding day, we enthusiastically encourage you to spend some time on this utterly magical, breathtaking drive along the wind-bitten west coast.

Flying In

There are two primary options for this. The Shannon and Dublin airports are about equidistant from Westport. Dublin will offer more flights, and likely be more affordable. From there you'll have the choice of catching a train directly to Westport, or renting a car. The train will save you the ordeal of driving in the vicinity of Dublin, but you'll likely have to take a short bus ride up to Castlebar if you want to rent a car.

If budget and time are no concern, you can involve a few layovers and land in Knock/Ireland West Airport, which is a smaller operation, but the closest option by far.
