Like all great love stories these days… Maggie and Jan met online! Sleepless in Columbus, and in Cape town (not Seattle).
After years of searching and almost giving up on love, Jan discovered Maggie’s profile and took a chance and sent her a message. The connection was instant and within days they discovered something was “different” about their connection. Jan was traveling in South Africa at the time they “met”, and sent videos every day of his adventures, sharing his home and culture with Maggie.
They fell in love over voice messages and videos excitedly talking about all things adventure, art, poetry, storytelling , food, family, spirituality and of course magic!
Jan knew that he had to meet Maggie and although she lived far away in the States, he somehow made it to Columbus a month later! When they met in person the first time they just knew, this was it, this was the one!
What followed was months of long distance, coming and going between winters in Canada and Springtime in Ohio. Jan knew he had to move down to be with Maggie, so he left his life in Canada and drove the 2700 miles down.
Jan and Maggie felt blessed to have some time together, then summer broke and Jan popped the question in one of his favourite places in the world. Hirtles beach, just outside Lunenburg in Nova Scotia, with a musician serenading both of them on the beach to their favourite love song “Can’t help falling in love with you” by Elvis Presley.
Maggie said yes, and the rest is history. Jan wishes to express posthumous gratitude to Mr. Presley.
