Maggie and Pat first met as Accounting TAs at The Ohio State University, though they barely overlapped in the tutor room and hardly spoke. Both graduated in 2019 — Pat moved to New York City, and Maggie to Chicago.
In the winter of 2021, Pat moved to Chicago, and through Ohio State connections, they became friends. On August 6th, during a night out in Chicago, Pat decided he was done being “just friends” and kissed Maggie at the iconic Hangge Uppe. A few weeks later, when his sister Meg came to visit, Pat asked Maggie, “So when I introduce you, should I say you’re my girlfriend or my friend?” Meg met Pat’s girlfriend that day — and future sister-in-law.
The years since have been full of travel and time with their Chicago friends. Maggie’s favorite memory is their 2.5-week camper van trip out west — six national parks, hiking, and cold beer cans as makeshift ice packs in the summer heat. Pat’s favorite was their trip to Mexico, where they swam through ancient caves and floated in a hot air balloon over Aztec pyramids — despite his fear of heights (thanks to Maggie’s encouragement).
On November 29th, 2024, while walking by the Scioto River — a favorite path for the Hobsons — Pat got down on one knee and asked Maggie to spend forever with him. She didn’t know he’d gone ring shopping earlier that week, or that he’d planned a weekend of surprises with her family and friends. It was perfect.
Now, they can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter in a place that means so much to both of them — where Pat grew up spending summers at his family’s lake house, and where Maggie has come to love over the last four years.
We can’t wait to celebrate with you and share the beauty of this special place. <3
