For our out of state guests looking to spend some extra time exploring the Philadelphia area or looking for transportation information, listed below are some travel tips and recommendations for sight-seeing!
For those flying in from out of state and staying at the venue, Philadelphia has a great railway system. The SEPTA Manayunk/Norristown Line has stop a few miles from the venue. If you plan to use this option, reach out to Maggie or Richard, and we will coordinate transportation from the train station to the venue.
For fans of history (or National Treasure) see where the Declaration of Independence was signed at Independence Hall! Tour tickets can be reserved online for $1.00.
To view the Liberty Bell and the associated museum, visit the Liberty Bell Center. Admission is free and on a first-come, first-served basis.
Art and Rocky fans can visit the iconic steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art! Tickets can be reserved online via the website link.
A Philadelphia favorite for kids, the Franklin Institute is a great museum option for those interested in the sciences. Tickets can be reserved online.
One of the more unique museums in Philadelphia, the Mutter Museum is a medical history museum run by the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Tickets can be reserved online.
Please note that there is a recommended age of 10+ for this museum since the exhibits focus on medical history and parts of the collections do contain human remains.
Visit America's very first zoo! Along with the animal exhibits, the zoo has a carousel and a kids SEPTA train ride. Tickets can be reserved online, and children under 2 get free admission!
The Elmwood Park zoo is a smaller local zoo that my grandparents took us to as kids and is a short drive from the venue. It's got a lot of your typical zoo attractions without the drive into the city. Tickets can be reserved online, and children under 2 are free.
For those with the ability to drive, spring is the perfect time to visit Longwood Gardens. A little outside the city in Kennett Square and located on an old DuPont estate, they have a beautiful tulip exhibit in the spring, and they do fountain shows. This is where we did our engagement photos! The grounds are huge with multiple gardens, a treehouse, and fountains that look straight out of a fairytale. A small museum onsite also covers some of the history of the DuPont family. Tickets for specific times must be reserved online.
After, consider a walk around Kennett Square (Mushroom capital of the world!) They have some awesome restaurants, many of which serve mushroom-based dishes sourced from the local mushroom farms, and several breweries. The Creamery has a great outdoor space for springtime drinks!
A local favorite, the magic gardens contain gorgeous mosaics in the heart of the city. It is recommended to reserve tickets early, as they can sell out quick!
Located across the river in Camden, you can tour the WWII Battleship New Jersey. It also has a cafe and kids play area! Tickets can be reserved online.
Also across the river is the Adventure Aquarium! Along with both fresh and saltwater fish, you can view hippos, penguins, explore touch tanks, a shark bridge, and splash tables. A great option for kids! Tickets must be reserved online.
For our foodies, the Reading Terminal Market is a must (Our Dayton/Cincinnati locals think Findlay Market, but bigger!)
Given that we visit a Wawa at least once a day every time we visit PA, I'm only half joking.
If you want the classic tourist experience, visit Geno's or Pat's for a cheesesteak and pick your favorite. (If you want a more authentic cheesesteak experience, talk to my brother Aidan for recommendations based on where he gets his ritual pre-Eagles game cheesesteak)
