Our Story

Stephen and Maggie first met briefly at a Theology On Tap in Birmingham, but they were already aware of each other through Maggie's best friend, Mary Helen. Stephen knew Maggie as the girl who was crazy about his little red-headed nieces and nephew after seeing them from afar at Mass, and Maggie knew Stephen as the "know it all" at Mary Helen's work. Ironically enough, in August 2023, Maggie and Stephen became co-workers in the same department at the Eternal Word Television Network. Their first non-work related interaction was at a party at Stephen's house, where Maggie and Mary Helen confronted him about having 1-ply instead of 2-ply toilet paper. Stephen learned a valuable lesson that night, and it sparked a lot of inside jokes and friendship between Maggie and Stephen. They secretly admired one another through their shared kindness, genuineness, and senses of humor.&nbsp; Stephen asked Maggie on their first date in November 2023, and the rest is history. From coffee dates discussing the books they were reading, to meeting each other’s families for the first time (at least the ones that they weren’t coworkers with), and all of the adventures in between, their friendship and relationship continued to grow, culminating in Stephen getting a blessing from Maggie’s family and hunting down the perfect ring. After lots of pondering and preparation, Stephen decided to propose to Maggie on October 1st, ditching his original plan to propose on her birthday a month later. There was divine intervention as the ring arrived early on St. Therese of Lisieux's feast day, one of their favorite patrons. He asked the big question on Maggie’s back porch with the simplicity and intentionality that characterizes their beloved saint friend. We are so incredibly blessed and grateful to Our Lord for bringing us together and working to prepare us for the day we would meet and fall in love! The joyful reactions of our engagement from family and friends have been gratifying and overwhelming to say the least. We have many prayer warriors looking out for us, as well as all our dear patron saints! While we have already experienced so many adventures and blessings, our story is actually just beginning. There is a lot of work and preparation yet to be done and we ask that you keep us in your prayers as we countdown to our wedding day! A wonderful place for prayer. Stephen's oldest sister, Sr. Marie Therese, is one of the nuns at the Monastery. You can hear them pray and also visit the tomb of Mother Angelica.
