We have compiled a list of our favorite places for you to explore during your time in Athens, the Classic City. Most of these options are downtown, which is a short walk from the hotel accommodation. Within each option, we have listed why it is a favorite of ours. There are also 2 very special spots that we even stopped by prior to the North Campus Proposal.
We got engaged on January 23, 2021 in front of the Chapel located on UGA's historic North Campus. This spot is a short walk from the hotel. Click the link above to find the exact location, which is just past UGA's iconic Arch.
For guests staying in downtown Athens, you are just a short walk from UGA's Campus. We recommend making time to see the Arch, North Campus, and Sanford Stadium while you are in town.
Stop by our favorite coffee shop in the morning or for a midday pick-me-up. You'll find the orange coffee cup from the proposal pictures here :)
This is the top taproom in town (and possibly the world). Stop-by for a post-travel-day drink! Fun fact - Creature Comforts plans to open their next taproom in Los Angeles. Also, one of their brews, Tropicalia, was featured in the hit film, The Avengers.
This is the home of the best bagel sandwiches in Athens. Stop-by for breakfast or lunch to fuel-up for the day. We were just finishing our favorite bagels when Chris popped the question.
Chris' s order: Jalapeno-Cheddar bagel with scrambled egg, cream cheese, and bacon
Maggie's order: Asiago Cheese bagel with scrambled egg and sundried tomato cream cheese
This option offers some of the heartiest dinners in the Classic City. You also may want to plan to stop-by for a post-wedding brunch on Saturday or Sunday (10am-3pm) before leaving town.
This is a crowd-pleasing option with lots of artisan pizzas made to order. This is a place where you order first and then find a seat either indoors or outside in their spacious patio seating.
Getting into town prior to the Wedding? Feel free to visit the Wedding Venue site pre-ceremony to view the beautiful gardens. There are both indoor and outdoor gardens to explore. Learn more here.
