Nick and Maggie first crossed paths in high school through mutual friends who were dating. Then, in July of 2021, fate brought them back together. They bumped into each other at a Granger Smith concert, reconnecting just like old times over drinks at the bar, laughing and catching up. A week later, Nick asked Maggie out on a date. Maggie, who was preparing to move to Texas in a month, told him she wasn’t looking for anything serious. But Nick was determined, and despite the circumstances, they continued talking.
In the month that followed, they attended as many Hot Country Nights events as they could and went on more dates. Before Maggie left, Nick insisted that she meet his family and his dog, Oakley. At first, Oakley wasn’t too fond of Maggie, jealous of the attention she was getting, but with time, Oakley warmed up to her, and their bond grew.
When Maggie moved to Texas, they stayed in touch, spending countless hours on the phone and FaceTiming while watching movies together, often with Nick’s younger sister, Aubrey. Their connection deepened as they realized how much they had in common. Nick made several surprise trips to visit Maggie and spend time with her and her family, who welcomed him with open arms and treated him like one of their own.
Tragedy struck when Nick’s mother, Lori, passed away. When Nick called Maggie to let her know, Maggie didn’t hesitate for a second. She left work, packed up, and within an hour was driving the 12-hour trip to be there for him and his family. She took the remaining two weeks of her PTO to support Nick through one of the most difficult times of his life. Nick says, “I knew she was the one when she did that for me.” That heartbreaking chapter only brought them closer. By the end of the summer, they decided to take the next step and move in together into their first apartment.
While living together, they noticed Oakley had become lonely, especially after losing his backyard. They decided to adopt a second dog from the KC Pet Project and found Alfredo. Coincidentally, Alfredo was a dog from Maggie’s past, and Nick saw it as "fate" — she had to come home with them. Oakley and Alfredo quickly became inseparable, and they couldn't have found a better pair of dogs. Oakley is now a total mama's boy, and Fredo follows Nick everywhere. After a year in their apartment, they moved to a townhome with more outdoor space for the pups to roam.
Though they may bicker from time to time, they are each other's best friends. Nick says, “She is the best thing that has ever happened to me,” adding, “She has the kindest heart and the sweetest soul.” Maggie admires Nick’s huge heart and his strong sense of family. She loves how much he goes out of his way for her and the dogs, always making sure they have everything they need.
Together, they enjoy going out for dinner, supporting their local hockey team, and visiting Maggie’s family whenever they can. They also love binge-watching TV shows and horror movies, attending concerts, and embracing all the fun activities fall has to offer, especially Halloween. As their bond continues to strengthen, they are excited about building a life and family together in the years to come, with plans to move to Texas in 2026.
