We are so excited to celebrate with you in Barranquilla, Colombia — a vibrant Caribbean city full of music, flavor, and charm. While the bride may be the only one who knows it well, by the end of your trip you’ll feel like a true “Currambero” (that’s what locals call themselves!). To help you prepare for the adventure, we’ve put together everything you need to know — from safety tips to must-try foods, transportation hacks, and even where to exchange your dollars for pesos. Think of this as your ultimate wedding-weekend travel guide.

Barranquilla is warm and tropical year-round, with average temperatures in the 90s°F (30-32°C). Pack light, breathable clothing.

Currency & Payments:

The local currency is the Colombian Peso (COP). It's best to exchange money at the hotel, airport or use an international credit card for convenience. Currency: Colombian Pesos (COP). $1 USD ≈ 3,800 COP (but fluctuates). Credit Cards: Accepted almost everywhere (Visa/Mastercard more than AmEx). ATMs: Widely available, safest at malls and banks. Tip:- Restaurants: The standard tip is 10% of the bill, and it's automatically added to your check. You don't need to leave anything extra unless you’d like to. - Guest Services Attendants (bellhops, hotel staff, etc.): A tip of around $4–5 USD is expected for their assistance. Again, if you feel they went above and beyond, you're welcome to give a little extra.

- Barranquilla is friendly and lively, but like any big city, stay street-smart.- Keep your phone and other valuables secure while in public places. - Stick to bottled or filtered water.- Sunscreen is your best friend — this is the Caribbean!- The dress code is casual-cool, but the heat is real. Getting to BAQ

Airport: The main airport in Barranquilla is Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ). It is located about 30 minutes from the Marriott Barranquilla Hotel. Flights (U.S to Barranquilla): There are direct flights from Miami, Bogota, and Panama City with easy connections from most U.S. hubs. We recommend American Airlines, Copa Airlines, and Spirit Airlines. Based on experience, it will be easier to flight from either Miami to Barranquilla, or Panama to Barranquilla. At the Airport: Taxis and ride-share apps (Uber) are available, but for peace of mind, we recommend booking a trusted taxi at the official airport counter, arranging a hotel pickup, or let us help you set up the travel plans for you. If you’re staying at the Marriott Hotel, the ride from the airport to the hotel costs about 50,000 COP (around $13 USD). Getting Around BAQ

We strongly recommend that you do not rent a car or drive during your stay. Think of Barranquilla traffic as a wild dance — fast, unpredictable, and not exactly beginner-friendly. Locals are pros at weaving through traffic, but for visitors, it can feel overwhelming (and parking isn’t much fun either). Instead, sit back, relax, and let taxis, ride-share apps, or a private driver do the work. Trust us — it’ll save you time, and stress.

We recommend booking the transportation directly at the front desk of the hotel. If this is unavailable, we recommend using apps like Uber.

What does “Formal Wedding Attire” mean?

It means we'd love for our guests to dress in elegant, black-tie inspired attire. For women, that's long, floor-length dress. For men, a suit and tie is appropriate.

Is Barranquilla safe?

Yes! Barranquilla is a vibrant and welcoming city. Like in any large city, we recommend using common sense: stick to well-known areas, use Uber or hotel-arranged taxis, and keep valuables secure. If you follow these simple guidelines, you’ll have a wonderful and safe experience.

Do I need an adapter?

No. Colombia uses the same plug type and voltage (110V) as the U.S., so your electronics will work without an adapter.

Do I need cash?

Colombian pesos (COP) are the local currency. Most places accept credit cards, but it’s handy to have small bills for taxis and tips. ATMs are widely available.

Will my phone work?
