In Volos:

Food:

- Go to a ‘tsipouradiko’ for ‘tsipouro’ and accompanying meze (tapas). Volos is famous for its ‘tsipouro’, a strong drink like grappa. A tsipouradiko is a restaurant where you can enjoy this drink and delicious meze, usually seafood and vegetarian. The more you drink, the more you eat!

Best on the sea front: ‘To Lepi’ ,

Best without sea view: To Filaraki

- Have a souvlaki, takeaway in any of the following places: To souvlaki tis Alexandras, o Igetis

Coffee / drinks:

- Get freddo espressso/ cappuccino at Spira, the best one in town. Also operates as a very nice bar for a beer or drinks.

Sweets (and coffee, perhaps backgammon) on seafront:

- Go to ‘Minerva’, one one of the oldest operating cafes of Volos. They make their own special sweets (‘pasta fournou’, serrano, etc.), and coffee ice cream (‘mocha’ and ‘supermocha’). It’s probably best to get a frappe coffee there (any other type of coffee may disappoint you). Play backgammon!

Sightseeing:

- Rooftile and Brickworks Museum (next to the wedding party venue!):

- Archaeological Museum:

- Churches (for the architecture): St. Nicolas church in the city centre, St Konstantinos church on the seafront.

Other things to do:

- Go for a walk on the seafront. See the statue of Liberty, feel like you’re in Manhattan 😊

- Walk around the city centre.

- If you fancy going to the movies, there is one open air cinema which is lovely.

Outside Volos:

All places suggested below are in close proximity to Volos on mount Pelion, the so-called ‘Centaurus’ Mountain’. Most places are just a short drive away or within 1hour & 15 mins depending on how far you want to go. Think great views of Pagasitikos gulf, villages with traditional local architecture, nature, lovely beaches, delicious food. You can combine hiking and swimming, food and coffee.
