DRIVING:  Driving on the Amalfi Coast? Not recommended… unless you have a death wish. LOL—just kidding. But seriously, the roads are insanely narrow, there are sheer cliffs with little to no guardrails, and parking? Basically nonexistent.  Italians are some of the kindest people you’ll ever meet—but when it comes to driving? Patience is not in their vocabulary.  If you do decide to drive, know what you’re getting into. And remember: • Always keep one hand on the wheel and the other on the horn—like a true Italian. • Turn signals? Forget it. Honking and eye contact are how drivers communicate. • Sunglasses are your secret weapon. If they can’t see your eyes, they can’t force you to give them the right of way.  Drive at your own risk—or just take the ferry and sip an Aperol Spritz in peace.

There is NO uber. There is NO Lyft.  Taxis and public transportation only. What to Pack

Put it in the waste basket next to the toilet**  👋 Greetings & Politeness • Say hello and goodbye : Always greet with a friendly “Buongiorno” (good morning) or “Buonasera” (good evening), and say “Arrivederci” when leaving. • Use “Per favore” (please), “Grazie” (thank you), and “Prego” (you’re welcome). • Handshakes are common, but locals may also kiss on both cheeks (air kisses) if you’re familiar, don’t initiate unless they do.  ⸻  🍝 Dining Etiquette Don't you dare try to make a reservation 6 pm. Anything actually before 7 pm is considered early and it will scream tourist. Like they will laugh at you lol most restaurants don't even open until 7. Most locals eat dinner 8pm -9:30 pm.  • Wait to be seated at restaurants, don’t seat yourself unless invited. • Don’t expect fast service....meals are leisurely; enjoy the pace. Calm down and be patient 😂 • Bread is not served with olive oil or butter in Italy .... avoid asking. • It’s polite to finish what’s on your plate (or close to it). • No cappuccino after 11 AM.. Italians only drink it in the morning. Order an espresso or macchiato later in the day. • Tipping is not expected but appreciated. Round up the bill or leave a few euros for good service. Alsooooo, don't crumple your napkin on your plate. It's rude ...  ⸻  💬 Conversation • Italians love passionate conversations  • Don’t talk about politics or religion unless you know the person well. • Lower your voice indoors. Americans often stand out for being loud. But like no. We really are annoying. And we stand out like an eyesore sometimes.   ⸻  👗 Style & Dress • Italians take pride in their appearance. dress well, especially in the evening. • Avoid beachwear away from the beach . • Cover shoulders and knees when entering churches.  ⸻  🚗 Driving/Walking • Crosswalks don’t always guarantee right of way .... make eye contact before crossing. • If renting a car, know that driving is aggressive and parking is scarce. • In shops or small markets, it’s polite to greet the shopkeeper when entering.  ⸻  🤌 A Few Cultural Tips • Punctuality is flexible socially, but not for tours or trains. • Don’t touch produce at markets. wait for the vendor to hand it to you. • It’s common to stand while having coffee at the bar, it’s faster and cheaper.
