Like many modern love stories, ours started on Facebook Dating… and like many almost-love stories, it began when Mariel ghosted Aaron. Not once. Not twice. But six times. Still, Aaron kept trying, determined, patient, and apparently immune to being ignored. Finally, after Mariel’s friend insisted, “You HAVE to go on a date with this guy, even if he talks like he’s from the era of top hats… do it for the plot!,” she agreed. Their first date was set in Grand Junction. When Mariel pulled up to Aaron’s house, she found him standing in the driveway holding a bundle of flowers so enormous that she couldn’t even see his face behind them. He handed them to her, grinning, and said how excited he was for their first date. They headed to a Hibachi grill-style restaurant - one of those places where the chefs cook right in front of you. As they parked, another car pulled up beside them. The driver started waving enthusiastically. Mariel, ever friendly, waved right back… while Aaron immediately panicked. Because the mystery waver? His mom. So yes, Mariel met Aaron’s mom on their very first date, and they hit it off instantly, laughing together like they’d known each other for years. (Don’t worry, for the actual meal they sat at different tables.) The date continued with Aaron being his wonderfully eccentric self, chatting with everyone, joking about being in a long-term relationship with Mariel despite barely knowing her, telling everyone it was her birthday even though it was not, sharing memories that were out of this world, and lumped Mariel right in (embarrassing her shy self to the max) and so on… and then taking her to a paint-and-sip he had planned. Thankfully there was wine, because at one point Aaron was up on the painting stage belting and leading a Shania Twain sing along while Mariel sat quietly in the back, sipping her drink and laughing. After the paint-and-sip (which tested Mariel’s patience because she prefers painting alone, not in a group activity), they headed back to the car… only to discover a flat tire. So they called an Uber. The Uber arrived. The man in leather was packing heat in the front seat. Both of them looked at each other and said, “Well… this is how we die.” (It has been a running joke ever since…that online dating nearly took them out before they even got to date two.) But they survived the ride, both called their moms to tell the story, and met up again the very next day. And after that? They never spent a night apart. What started with ghosts, giant flowers, surprise moms, Shania Twain, a flat tire, and a questionable Uber turned into a love story full of laughter, chaos, and exactly the kind of weird magic that means you’ve found your person.

Our Story

How the story begins…

Marney is my sister, my right hand, and the person who has been by my side through every season of life. We may have spent our childhood trying to kill each other (in the loving, sibling-kind-of-way), but somewhere between the arguments, the shared clothes, and the late-night talks, she became one of my favorite humans. She’s fiercely loyal, endlessly supportive, and the first person I call when life gets wild. I wouldn’t want anyone else standing next to me on this day.

AJ is the definition of a good time. He’s the class clown in the best way possible—someone whose personality lines up perfectly with mine. Between the ADHD energy, the random stories, and the completely off-the-wall conversations (and songs), there’s never a dull moment when he’s around. He’s the kind of guy who lives in the moment and makes every moment better because of it. There was never a question—AJ had to be my Best Man.

Krystal has been by Mariel’s side since their college days, when they were roommates, partners in chaos, and built-in support systems. They even launched their careers at the same time, taking on adulthood together one adventure at a time. Krystal’s laugh is one of Mariel’s favorite sounds in the world, and her authenticity is something everyone who knows her treasures. She’s the friend who shows up, keeps it real, and makes life a whole lot brighter—exactly the kind of person you want beside you on your wedding day.

Dillon is someone I’ve always joked is a “misplaced-in-time mob boss”—and honestly, it fits. He’s got that no-BS attitude and a loyalty that runs deep. He’s the type of friend who will always stand up for you no matter the situation, no questions asked. Over the years, that kind of loyalty has meant a lot to me. He’s real, he’s solid, and he’s someone I’m proud to call a lifelong friend.

Dillon Macks

Elise is one of Mariel’s closest friends—the kind of friend who has truly been there through it all. They met in college, explored life side by side, and even lived together in Italy, collecting memories that still make them laugh years later. Elise has a way of bringing out Mariel’s creative spark and supporting her in every season of life. She’s steady, loyal, inspiring, and one of the most meaningful friendships Mariel could ever ask for.

Tiffany has been my best gal pal since I’ve been in Grand Junction, and her and her family have truly become like my own. She’s been there through everything—always supportive, always positive, and always someone I could count on. From helping with my kids to pushing me to grow (including encouraging me to pursue my alternative teaching degree), she’s had a bigger impact on my life than she probably realizes. She’s a constant ray of sunshine, and I’m incredibly lucky to have her in my life.

Jill is one of Mariel’s most loving, reliable, and honest friends - the kind who shows up through every high and low. They’ve navigated careers, relationships, and life’s chaos together, always growing closer. Mariel adores Jill and her wonderful kids, Ezzra and Sophie. Sassy, sweet Sophie is Mariel’s little “mini-me,” bringing joy wherever she goes. Whether it’s margaritas or movie nights, time with this family is always a gift. Having Jill beside her and Sophie tossing petals makes the day feel complete.

Francisco is one of those people who just naturally brings good energy wherever he goes. Always smiling, always excited, and always someone you’re happy to see. He’s a family-first kind of guy who loves his people deeply, but still somehow makes time for his friends no matter what life throws his way. That balance is rare, and it’s something I’ve always respected about him. I’m grateful for the years of friendship and proud to have him standing by my side.

Liliana is one of those rare friends who becomes family. Mariel loves her so muchand has always found it hilarious (and flattering!) when people mistake them for sisters or even mother and daughter. Through every stage of Mariel’s life - her career, friendships, and relationships - Lili has been a constant source of support, love, and encouragement. Mariel’s gratitude for her runs deep, and having her stand beside her is truly an honor.

Austin came into our lives and somehow what started as a business deal turned into family instantly. From day one, we realized we had the same go-getter mentality, the same questionable sense of humor, and the same appreciation for good people and good times. Austin is genuine, loving, hilarious, and the kind of person who makes everyone around him feel welcome. And of course, we can’t talk about Austin without mentioning his amazing wife, Taylor, who we adore just as much. We LOVE you!

Lily is Aaron’s daughter and now Mariel’s wonderful stepdaughter—an incredible hugger who is always overflowing with love, laughter, and light. Right beside her (on the left) is her best friend Kyla, who feels like a bonus daughter in every way. She’s full of jokes, puns, and the perfect spark of fun that follows her everywhere. Together, Lily and Kyla bring so much joy to our lives, and we’re thrilled to have them sprinkle that same joy down the aisle.

Atticus is Aaron’s son and now Mariel’s amazing stepson. He’s smart, loving, and always ready with extra hugs and laughs when they’re needed most. His autism brings light to the world and sparks beautiful, meaningful conversations that Mariel adores. Atticus brings so much joy to their family, and having him as a ring bearer makes the day even more special.

Ezzra is the son of one of Mariel’s bridesmaids, and she’s had the joy of watching him grow into a kind, hilarious little gentleman. His bright spirit, love for all things sweet, and natural charm make him the perfect ring bearer. He also holds a special place in Mariel’s heart as one of her favorite students and favorite person to share dessert with, making it even more meaningful to have him by her side on this day.

Eastbound on Highway I-70 take Exit 19 (Fruita). Turn south on Highway 340 to the west entrance, which is approximately three miles from Fruita. The visitor center and campground are four miles up from the west entrance. If you are prone to vertigo or dont like heights, you may want to choose this entrance because you will be traveling on the inside lane next to the hillside, for most of the trip. You don’t want to miss these views! Fruita I about 20 minutes from central Grand Junction.

We live in the land of wine. :) Our favorites include Bookcliff, Vine 79 Barn and Colterris, but every single one is fabulous - especially if they look like a little house. Palisade is 5 minutes from our house and 15 minutes from central Grand Junction!

Easy Hike, 2.6 miles in and back. It leads to a huge open and beautiful mica mine! Haha imagine that. 

Mica Mine Half Day Hike

Grand Mesa is the worlds largest flat-top mountain, located in western Colorado, and is known for its over 300 lakes, diverse forests, and abundant wildlife. It offers numerous outdoor recreational activities, including hiking, fishing, camping, and scenic drives along the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway. The mesa is a major watershed for the region and is a popular destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiast. It takes about and hour and a half to enjoy the mesa from Grand Junction.

These beautiful falls are instagram worthy. We like day picnics here! See the falls, walk behind and under them, and even stand on top of them! Rifle is an hour from Grand Junction. The Falls are another 15-20 minutes.

Honestly we just love the baby alpacas and feeding them. :) If you’re driving through Silt, stop by. Silt is one hour away from Grand Junction.

Take the gondola up to the fun! We love the cave tours, the kids love the rides, and everyone loves the alpine slide. This is about an hour and a half from Grand Junction. 

Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park

This is Aaron and Mariels favorite relaxing getaway. It has many hot pools on the river, drinks, food and of course an adult only section. This is located about an hour and a half from Grand Junction. 

Iron Mountain Hotsprings

Again, another one of our favorite. Hot, humid, slightly awkward. 10/10 This is located about an hour and a half from Grand Junction. 

Yampah Spa and Vapor Caves

We love this family friendly hot springs. The tubing slide is our favorite. :) It is about an hour and a half from Grand Junction.
