Our Wedding

Over a decade ago, Stan’s study abroad in Denmark was coming to an end, and he had to figure out where he would call home next. As luck would have it, a friend of his on O‘ahu offered to rent out his room to Stan in a house where a bunch of their buddies were all living together. So Stan moved into the Bach Pad—and that’s where he met the most beautiful, kindest, most amazing, ever-serious, non-awkward, utterly coordinated (obviously sarcastic) human gracing this earth: the girl next door, Marissa.From bringing over mail, to grabbing meals, to early mornings spent searching for Shelldon the tortoise (who had an unfortunate habit of getting lost in the yard) their neighborly friendship grew into a love almost as deep as Stephen King’s love for “Mambo No. 5.”Which brings us to today, as they prepare to say “I do” at Stan’s parents’ home in Mountain View, Hawai‘i—a place where, many years ago, when Stan first brought Marissa to visit, she said, “I can see us getting married here.”No longer next-door neighbors, but well on their way to being forever roommates!

Mountain View is located near Volcano, on the Big Island of Hawaii. It is about a 25 minute drive from Hilo. We will have parking available at the property. At this time we are hoping to offer bus transportation for those staying in Hilo (pick up/ drop off by hotels on Banyan Dr./ Way) on the wedding day, we will update once confirmed. If you are interested in a more rural and nature filled lodging experience closer to the wedding, we recommend looking at Air BnB/ Engine/ Vrbo rentals near Ihope Rd., Mountain View. If you are looking for hotel services and a Starbucks nearby in the morning, Hilo is the way to go.

Volcano Winery in Volcano offers a relaxed tasting experience on the slopes of Mauna Loa and Kīlauea. You can enjoy wine flights, estate-grown tea tastings, and guided vineyard or production-room tours. The atmosphere is casual and scenic, with a small gift shop and beautiful views of the volcanic landscape. Tastings start around $20, while guided tours generally range from $40–$75 per person, depending on the experience you choose.

Two Ladies Kitchen is a must if you’re in Hilo. This is a beloved local mochi shop famous for its soft, handmade mochi in a rainbow of flavors. Their standout offering is the strawberry mochi — a whole, juicy strawberry wrapped in smooth azuki bean paste and pillowy rice dough. But you can also find unique varieties like butter mochi, fruit-filled daifuku (lilikoi, pohā berry, grape, peach), as well as Oreo, brownie, sweet-potato, and seasonal fruit mochis. Call ahead if there’s certain mochi you’d like to try as the shop tends to be busy and popular flavors often sell out fast.

Hilo offers many waterfall hikes and parks, with popular options including Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls State Park, and the Boiling Pots area within Wailuku River State Park. Check out Rainbow Falls for easy ‘ohana-friendly access and sightseeing. Akaka Falls is a paved loop trail with views of two large waterfalls. The Boiling Pots area offers scenic views and is near Peʻepeʻe Falls.

Q: Can I bring a plus one? 

A: Please note that the guests addressed on your Save the Date invite are the guests included in the invitation. We’re unable to accommodate additional plus ones.

Q: Will there be any planned activities or events with bride and groom before the wedding? 

A: No group activities have been planned just yet, but we’re working on something fun! We’ll update the website in the months ahead once plans are finalized. Any group activity or event will take place a couple of days before the wedding and will include both the bride and groom. 

Q: Where can we see your registry? 

A: We’re excited to be building our home in Haiku, Maui! Because we don’t have space for physical gifts yet, we don’t have a registry. If you’d like to help us on this journey, gift cards to Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Costco—or monetary gifts—would mean so much as we build our home and farm.
