We know a lot of you will be traveling to Ireland from far and wide. A significant reason why we chose Wicklow as our wedding location is because we think its one of the prettiest areas in Ireland. We have put together a list of some of our favorite things around the area for your reference in case you're in search of adventure as well!

Wicklow

County Wicklow is a region south of Dublin in the east of Ireland. It’s known for its namesake mountains, Irish Sea coastline, country estates and the Wicklow Way. The following are some beautiful destinations to check out within Wicklow.

Glendalough Upper Lake

Glendalough Lake is a beautiful lake situated in the delightful surroundings of Glendalough Valley in Wicklow, Ireland. It is a natural lake formed in a glen of two lakes, surrounded by mountains. The lake is bordered on either side by grassy pastures and woodland, creating a stunning view and a peaceful atmosphere. The Spinc walk is a popular hiking route that follows the contours of the Glendalough Valley, offering spectacular views of the lake and the surrounding countryside. Visitors can explore a variety of archaeological sites, cool off in the lake, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. The walk is suitable for all levels of fitness and abilities, and offers the perfect opportunity to get away from it all and experience the tranquility of the Irish countryside.

Johnnie Fox's pub is a legendary pub located in the hills of Glencullen, County Dublin. Founded in 1798, the pub has seen many famous visitors, including writers William Butler Yeats and Bram Stoker; presidents of Ireland Mary McAleese and Eamon De Valera; movie stars and politicians. The pub's décor is traditional Irish, with open fireplace and armchairs arranged around small active tables. Heated by turf fires, the pub has a warm, cosy atmosphere. The menu consists of Irish pub favourites, such as steak and Guinness pie, bacon and cabbage, traditional Irish stew and a selection of seafood. The pub also serves drinks including whiskey, beer, wine and spirits. Live music sessions including traditional Irish folk music are held in the bar. The pub is a popular attraction and tourist destination in the region and offers a unique experience for visitors to Ireland.

Ballinastoe Woods

Ballinastoe Woods is a gorgeous wooded area located on the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. The Wicklow Way is a long-distance trail spanning approximately 127 km (79 miles) through the heart of Ireland’s most beautiful landscapes, from the capital city of Dublin all the way to the Garden County of Wicklow. The majority of the route follows Wicklow’s mountain range, with rolling hills and breathtaking views of lakes, rivers, and woodland, making it one of the most well-known walking trails in the country. Along the way, visitors will pass through ancient monuments, ruined abbeys, and lush forestry, providing an amazing and unique insight into the beauty and history of the region. The slower-paced trail is perfect for those wishing to enjoy a relaxing journey through nature, whilst also offering more strenuous sections for experienced hikers looking for a challenge. With numerous access points, the Wicklow Way is a fantastic option for day trips or several day hikes. Part of the trail even runs directly through the Ballybeg Estate property!
