Our Wedding

'Twas Mary's 3rd Bumble date of the week, a Friday afternoon in August... She'd been going on a lot of dates since her child had turned 18 that year and her new job didn't require as many hours as her old one. What was this cute kiwi named Russell going to be like? They met at Hopcat for a drink in downtown A2 where there's nice outdoor seating and it was close to their workplaces. Mary claimed she'd meet Russell there right after work, but she left work early and went to Billy's apartment to change into nice clothes and put make-up on to pretend like she looked this put together all day! Russell got there first and sent a selfie of himself on the patio so she could find him, and otherwise tried to be way cooler than he actually was. Mary thought he was way too handsome and cool for her, but then one drink together turned into "let's order another round" and then after the second round it turned into "we should probably just order dinner too." They tried to explain to each other what their jobs were, with lots of nerd talk and hand waving from both parties. They debated (and still to this day debate) over how to pronounce the word tomato. Russell told Mary how he went to China once and forgot to pack any underwear and how that getting out was "better than staying at home alone". Mary told him how one time she was accused of bike theft after Russell said he liked to bike to work (to which he said that maybe she should keep that story to herself on a first date). They talked about everything from New Zealand to Michigan. This plan for quick drinks turned into several hours of chatting, leaving Russell to bike home in the dark. Russell ended the date by saying, "this was much better than staying home alone." They had a quick hug and then walked their separate ways. Mary was bummed. He definitely wasn't interested in her after saying something like that, but she really liked him anyway. As Russell walked back in the dark to get his bike, he realized that he stuck his foot in his mouth. He messaged Mary right away (since he really liked her) to clarify what he had said (much to her relief) and they haven't gone a day without chatting ever since. They are looking forward to being weird and awkward together for the rest of their lives, continuing their ruthless rummy match for all of eternity, and having lots of adventures! Mary and Russell can't wait to celebrate their big day and share their happiness with all of their friends and family! Cheers!
