We have made Columbus our home over the past several years, and we like to think that we found some pretty good places to eat and things to do. Please check out some of our favorite places during your time in CBUS!
With a two hour break, you have some time to explore downtown. The following locations are all within an 8 minute walk of our venues.
Jackie O's On 4th
Jackie O's started in Athens, OH, which is home to Ohio University where Mary went to college. They have an awesome patio area and a rotating list of beers.
Wolf's Ridge Brewing
Wolf's Ridge has a tap room that you can enter from E Hickory St (go past the front door and turn down the alley). Daybreak is one of our favorite Columbus beers, and we are big fans of the pierogis here!
Pins Mechanical
Pins is a great spot to grab a drink and play some games! They have giant Jenga, pinball machines, and duck pin bowling as well as a patio and swings for you to enjoy.
There are so many great places to grab a bite, but here are our favorites!
Kyle's Picks
Breakfast: Katalina's
Katalina's is a brunch spot that features tacos, sandwiches, and breakfast food. Their location on 3rd St is small, so make sure to grab a spot on their patio. If you go, try their Award-Winning Breakfast Tacos and their pancake balls filled with Nutella!
Lunch: Wario's Beef and Pork
Kyle and his brothers, cousins, and friends state that Wario's has some of the best sandwiches they have ever eaten and that "Wario is a sandwich genius." If you have a large appetite, Wario's is the spot for you. Try the Steak - Wario's Way with long hots or one of their rotating Saturday specials.
Dinner: Chapman's Eat Market
Chapman's is one of our favorite restaurants that we frequently recommend. It has great apps, a diverse, rotating menu, and excellent cocktails. If you go, get the General Tso's Cauliflower, Chapman's Beef Fat Fries with dipping sauces, and the Maple Hazelnut Budino. However, availability is often limited, so we recommend making a reservation ahead of time. If you plan to walk in, small parties can sometimes be seated at the bar!
Bar: Antiques on High
This is where we met for the first time. It is a brewery focused on sour beers, but they also have IPAs, pale ales, and cocktails. Enjoy a drink in their lounge or on the rooftop.
Mary's Picks
Breakfast: Fox in the Snow
Fox in the Snow is a coffee shop that also serves pastries and breakfast sandwiches. They have locations in Italian Village and German Village and are quite popular! Mary is a fan of their Banana Bread and Blueberry Galette.
Lunch: Northstar Cafe
Northstar has been a go-to spot for us to bring first time Columbus visitors. Their menu is full of salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. Mary's favorite thing to order is the Thai Burrito and the Mint Iced Coffee.
Dinner: Martini Modern Italian
Martini is another highly recommended restaurant by us, and the lasagna is Gary approved! Try the pesto that comes with the bread and our go-to order is the Pennette alla Vodka. We aren't big on ordering dessert, but there hasn't been a single time we have gone and not gotten the Chocolate Bread Pudding (it's that good!).
Bar: Land-Grant Brewing Company
Land-Grant has an amazing beer garden featuring picnic tables, food trucks, and cornhole. Their beer selection caters to a wide variety of beer drinkers, and they have often been named the top brewery in Columbus. We have enjoyed many nights here playing cornhole with friends, and eventually, heading across the street to BrewDog for a change of scenery and a new tap list.
Columbus has several areas for shopping, exploring, or taking an afternoon walk.
German Village
German Village is a historic neighborhood just south of downtown, and it is a lovely area to go for a stroll. Grab a coffee at Stauf's or Winans, explore all 32 rooms at the Book Loft (it's a book lovers dream), walk down Mohawk street to Schiller Park, or eat traditional German food at Schmidt's Sausage Haus. A few of our favorite places from above are also located here, like Antiques on high, Chapman’s Eat Market, and Fox in the Snow.
Short North
Short North is filled with shops and restaurants. Visit the many boutiques, try Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream, stroll through Goodale park, or order a Guinness and play some darts at Short North Tavern.
Scioto Mile
If you are downtown and want to take in some scenery, stop by the Scioto Mile! There are walking paths and benches for you to take in the view. If you are lucky, you may catch Tim out there getting his 10,000 steps.
Museums & Conservatory
Columbus has a variety of museums for you to explore. COSI is a hands-on learning science center with a variety of exhibitions and experiences. Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens combines nature with art by featuring a collection of glass work by Dale Chihuly throughout the grounds and biomes.
