Our story begins back now almost a decade ago and several thousand miles away in Washington, D.C. This Hoya (Matt W.) and Colonial (Matt C.) were both living and working in the nation's capital. We had swiped right on each other, messaged back and forth for a little bit, and decided to meet up. We dated briefly and saw each other in 2012 and 2013 but it turned out back then that the timing just wasn't right and life eventually ended up taking us in different directions. But little did we know our story had just only barely begun! Matt (W) would end up moving to Michigan for Law School (Go Blue!). Matt (C) would eventually end up making the big move to New York City and working for an advertising agency, just as he had been hoping to do for awhile. In February 2017 however, Matt (C)'s plans would change quite dramatically. His position became available on the team at his agency that was working on (at the time) the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic &amp; Paralympic Bid for the Games. He was given the chance to join the team and decided to take the risk and make the move out to Los Angeles in a matter of weeks. (Spoiler alert: LA would go on to win the hosting duties for the 2028 Games!) That same spring/summer Matt (W) had finished up his time at law school in Michigan and after three years of those cold, dark, frigid winters, he returned home to sunny Southern California to study for the bar exam before starting his legal career in the fall. (Spoiler alert: He passed!) Neither of us knew the other was in Los Angeles until the fall when we both would find ourselves once again stumbling across each other and swiping right and matching and saying hello (again)! It had been over five years since either one of us had seen each other but we once again started talking and decided to meet up for a date in October. Though time had passed, it still felt normal seeing each other and the conversation and drinks flowed naturally! A second first date turned into many more - and the adventures together have been plentiful, both small and large - and there's a lifetime more in store for us as we look ahead together! There are many different neighborhoods and places to stay on the west side of Los Angeles. A few of our recommendations are: *Santa Monica* - The most convenient neighborhood with a wide variety of hotel options and close proximity to our wedding venue, the Bel-Air Bay Club. Very walkable, with plenty of things to see / do. Brentwood / Westwood - On either side of the 405, Brentwood (west of the 405) and Westwood (east of 405) are both additional areas with several hotels, etc. Century City - Where we live! Additional hotel options near the Westfield Century City Mall. Culver City - Another great location in the surrounding area with easy freeway access, downtown area, and various hotel options. There is no official hotel block, but below are a couple hotel options where we have provided discount codes as options.

Whether you are here for just the day or making it an entire holiday weekend, there's so much to do in and around LA! We've put together a list of some of our top suggestions and some of our favorite things -- to do, eat, drink, etc!

One of our favorite places to get a cocktail is at this "secret" speakeasy that isn't so secret anymore. Please be aware they do have a dress code (no shorts). Reservations available on Resy, but walk-ins also accepted.

Employees Only

One of LA's recently newest restaurants that has been a huge hit, that just happens to be near where we live. Absolutely wonderful French-centric food. Reservations available on OpenTable - and they book up very quickly and far out in advance!

Bicyclette

One of our favorite summer activities is going to events at the iconic Hollywood Bowl! Catch one of their 4th of July Firework Spectacular shows. Our recommendation: Don't drive there! Instead take one of their Park &amp; Ride or Shuttles buses from various locations around the city (This is a separate ticket you can purchase in advance) and save yourself the hassle! Most shows also allow you to bring in outside food &amp; drink!

Hollywood Bowl

Head to the beach, but go away from the Pier where it less touristy and packed. Instead, cross over and down to the beach at the Montana Avenue pedestrian bridge.

Santa Monica Beach

Go out for a hike and head to one of the most popular trails in city! Parking is very limited as you approach the entrances to Runyon Canyon and will be full of both residential parking and others trying to find parking for trail. Go earlier in the day for your best chance of parking close.

Runyon Canyon Park

Head up into to the observatory for a wonderful surrounding view of the city, check out the observatory, and even go on a hike around Griffith Park. Be warned: Parking is extremely limited and will get busy fast. Head there earlier in the day in the morning for the best change of parking at the top. Or you'll have to find the first spot along the sides of the curving road up.

Griffith Observatory

Perhaps our favorite spot for donuts, try their signature Celebration Cake donut or any of their seasonal options. Multiple locations around the city.

Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee

Perhaps our favorite place for ice cream in LA! Multiple locations around the city.

Salt & Straw

One of our go-to places to get Mexican food, it's nothing fancy, but that's the point! *But if you watched MTV's The Hills... this also is the same place where Spencer and Heidi would go on dates. Eek!

Don Antonio's

One of our favorite brunch spots in the city. There's now two different locations (also in Brentwood) - get the Spanish Fried Chicken &amp; Waffles!

A.O.C.

Right down the street from us is one of the nicest malls in the entire region! After a $1 billion upgrade, spend the afternoon shopping at this beautiful mall!

Westfield Century City

Visit one of LA's newest museums that just recently opened up - and learn and explore all about the film industry in Tinsel Town! This is also located right next to the LACMA museum and La Brea Tar Pits.

COVID-19 DISCLAIMER & REMINDER
