Despite both Maya and Ben studying industrial engineering at Georgia Tech and interning at Delta multiple times, the two didn't meet until a mutual friend asked Maya to take grad photos of her group of friends. Although Maya hadn't picked up a camera since AP photography in high school, she agreed and the two met through a quick introduction before Maya snapped photos of Ben + friends for the next hour.
Fast forward to half a year later, Ben was in his last semester at Georgia Tech and preparing for full-time job interviews in consulting. Maya was also preparing for consulting interviews, but for an internship during her last summer at school. Again, the same mutual friend (shoutout Sydney) encouraged Maya to reach out to Ben for consulting interview tips. Maya really wanted the help, so the two started meeting up to practice interviewing. This sparked a friendship that led to them studying together, walking to class together, and even getting ice cream together.
After a few months of talking, Ben had a hunch they had feelings for each other, but knew it wasn't the right time for them to pursue anything. Ben and Maya went on a "break", where they completely stopped talking to each other. Funny enough, a month later Maya had to wear a boot due to ill-equipped shoes to handle half-marathon training, and Ben also got put in a boot due to a heroic dodgeball play gone wrong. After realizing they were going through similar "struggles", the two slowly started talking again.
A week after Ben graduated, he invited Maya on a hike and then cooked dinner for her afterwards. Ben was leaving for a cross-country ski trip to celebrate his graduation soon, and the two decided to see how they felt about one another when he got back two months later. Ben got back on March 3rd and asked Maya to be his girlfriend that same night. The rest is history!
We try to cook a homemade meal together every Sunday night! We love trying new recipes and talking about the week ahead as we eat dinner together.
