If you're looking to stay close to The Wildwood Hotel, here are some things to do nearby! They're all within 20-ish minutes of the hotel.
Topgolf is a blast, even for people who aren't great at golfing like McKayla, and they have good food and drinks! It can get busy with a long wait, especially on weekends, so consider making a reservation online, or going right when they open to avoid waiting for hours.
Fun fact: McKayla dislocated her shoulder here in October- oops!
Every Saturday over the summer, there is a Farmer's Market that happens right outside of the hotel, in the Town Center area, from 8 am-12. There should be local crafters, food, vegetables, flowers, etc.
Castlewood has nice hiking trails, biking trails, and picnic pavilions.
It's not Disney World (to McKayla's disappointment), but Six Flags has some fun roller coasters and a water park too!
The Butterfly House is unique and of course, full of butterflies! It's fun even for people who hate bugs, like McKayla and Andrew.
Looking to venture into downtown St. Louis? Here's some things that are a little further from the hotel, but definitely worth the drive!
The St. Louis Zoo is free and a great place to go while in town!
If you’ve never been to The Arch, you should see it while in town. They just redid the grounds, and the park and museum are really nice. McKayla is afraid of heights, so even though she has lived in St. Louis for 16 years, she has only been to the top of the Arch once. It’s a cool experience to try though!
The City Museum is an interactive museum like no other, with fun things for kids and adults. We really can’t describe it, you’ll just have to go and see how unique and fun it is!
Fun fact: McKayla and Andrew's one-year anniversary date was at the City Museum!
Forest Park is a huge park (bigger than Central Park in New York City), with lots to explore! There are lakes, walking trails, museums (art and history), an outdoor amphitheater with free musicals (called The Muny), and more.
We haven't made it to the aquarium yet, but we've heard great things, and it's on our list! If you go, let us know what you think! The aquarium is part of the revamped Union Station, an area with plenty of restaurants and shops!
The Wheel is part of Union Station, which the city just revamped in the last few years. You can see the whole city in both directions from the top of The Wheel, which was cool!
You know how much Andrew and McKayla love to drink beer, and St. Louis has a great craft beer scene. If you want to spend Friday or Saturday (pre-wedding) brewery hopping, here's some recommendations!
The Anheuser-Busch brewery offers a few different types of tours, some that will take you to see the Clydesdales! Book a tour in advance, or just go drink a beer in the Biergarten!
Schlafly is an awesome local craft brewery with a great atmosphere, great beer, and great people! Try the Pale Ale if you go!
Note: there is another Schlafly location in Maplewood. Both locations are great, the one we have listed here just has more space!
Urban Chestnut is another great local craft brewery, with a really cool interior space! If you go, Andrew says try the Fantasyland IPA, and McKayla says try the Bushelhead Cider!
Note: there is another Urban Chestnut location on Washington Blvd. Both locations are great, the one we have listed here just has more space!
4 Hands has a great atmosphere and great beer! If you go, Andrew says try City Wide, and McKayla says try their seltzers (the only brewery seltzers that are this good)!
Crafty Chameleon is close to the hotel, and they have tons of taps from local and far away craft breweries. They recently started brewing their own beer also, and it is delicious! They have brick-oven pizza too, so this is a perfect beer and pizza stop!
Good News Brewing is quite the trek from the hotel, but we had to include it since we took some of our engagement pictures there! It has a great outdoor area, brick-oven pizza, and of course, great beer! It is worth the drive if you're willing to make it!
