On August 2, 2015 McKenna had started her internship with the Chicago Fire Soccer Club. She quickly became friends with a group of people and in that group was Kyle, a tall and snarky kid who kept making her laugh.
It was a game day when McKenna had Facebook messaged Kyle (whose picture was a giraffe spitting water) asking him if he knew where something was. McKenna started to like being around Kyle more and more and suddenly had an interest in the game of soccer. One day she was having issues with her timesheet and thought to reach out to Kyle, again on Facebook messenger, to see if he can help, giving her any excuse to talk to him. She even started watching Copa America games where she would quickly ask Kyle to explain the game of soccer, which he did. They quickly learned they both loved hockey and were chatting even more. Eventually, after many months of Facebook messaging they finally exchanged numbers.
In the summer of 2016 McKenna was out in Rockford for a job interview. Kyle lived in Huntley and she thought it would be a good opportunity to see if he wanted to grab dinner. Kyle picked Red Robin where they sat for hours and talked. It wasn't until McKenna's friend, Brooke, peer pressured her into texting Kyle how she felt, where things started to shift.
On August 30, 2016 McKenna and Kyle had their first official date at On The Border.
On August 28, 2021, Kyle had planned a date for their 5 year anniversary. Before leaving the apartment, in the kitchen Kyle got down on one knee and asked McKenna to marry him, saying he wanted to spend the rest of their anniversary celebration engaged.
The last 6 years have been full of many trips back and forth between the South Side of Chicago and Huntley, vacations, celebrations, apartment living, becoming home owners and adopting their best guy Winston.
(Kyle has never officially asked McKenna to be his girlfriend by the way, just his future wife).
