Whenever someone asks us how we met, Megan loves to jokingly mention how I ignored her when we were getting to know each other in school at Montana State University. What she didn't realize was that I immidiatly devloped a huge crush on her, but wasn't very good at showing it. After our last semester of classes together, I finally got the courage to ask her to accompany me to an art show where we stared to really connect. Unfortunately, this occured days before Megan was about to fly to spain and finish up her last few credits on a study abroad trip. Just like that, she was gone from my life until one day in the spring of 2020 when she reached out to me on Facebook Messenger. I was suprised and incredibly excited. She was back in town and wanted to catch up. Secretly, I was just praying that it would be a date. Fortunately for me, it was, and we fell right back into our growing relationship as if she never left. It took me little more than two weeks for me to ask her to be my girlfriend. I knew even sooner than that, she would become the most important person in my life. On the 4th of july, sitting on the banks of the Yellowstone River, in Paradise Valley, Montana watching the fireworks across the valley I asked her to be my girlfriend. She said no. One week later, undeneath the stars in the Bridger Mountains, she changed her mind and we began the official start of our relationship. During the remainder of the summer, we continued falling in love on our many adventures in and around Montana.
On the weekend of July 4th, 2022, we decided it was time for another adventure. We put our backpacking gear together and headed for the mountains. Little did she know, I had the ring in my pocket from the minute we got into the truck. As it burned a hole in my pocket, I was eagerly searching for the right moment. The moment arrived on the morning of July 3rd on the calm beach of Mystic Lake, a high alpine lake in the Absaroka Mountains. The rain had cleared from the night before and we were up early, not another human in sight, just our dog Seeley. That is when I pretended to set up my camera for a casual mountain photo and took a knee infront of her. This time she said yes right away, and we spend the rest of the weekend camping in the mountains and by the river.
Our story continues as we prepare for our big day in Pony, Montana. We are thrilled to celebrate our connection in a place that feels like home with all our friends and family.
