In the spring of 2020, as plans and dreams were crashing all around us, work was on Zoom, and lives were put on hold, we took to online dating to at least have some online connections. With school on perpetual hold and no one else in our bubbles, we had our first date as anyone would, over FaceTime. It only lasted a few hours, so Megan only had time for 2 or 3 washroom breaks. We decided that since that went alright to go for a bike ride and dinner on separate blankets at a park. Eventually, Megan had to use the washroom, and that led to us finally accepting that we would have to date inside.
Fast forward 6 months, and it was like we had dated for over a year. When Eleanor was asked if she wanted to meet Oliver’s “special” friend Megan, Ellie immediately clarified you mean “Megan Bregner” (as that was the voice Siri had repeated several thousand times during car rides to and from school). After gaining Ellie’s approval of Megan (and Kona), we moved in together and found a place with a nice patio, bought a fire pit, and we were able to actually meet each other’s friends through the safety of social distancing.
When the world finally opened up, we realized that our world’s fit seamlessly. The love that had formed when we were each other’s link to humanity thrived as our lives grew together. Oliver still couldn’t plan a date to save his life, but Megs was mostly forgiving of his ineptitude. The presence of all of Vancouver’s best breweries being a 5-minute walk away helped him come up with some creative date ideas, and Megan’s incredible luck meant that she fell in love with Crib quite quickly as well.
The success of our relationship meant that we started talking about the future, and we realized that ours would be amazing together. For some reason, Megan didn’t want to propose, which meant that Oliver would have to do the very thing that seemed impossible to him: plan something. Megan helped as best as she could, she went ring shopping, showed him some ideas, told him to talk to her friends, but she was of course baffled that it took Oliver so long to finally propose.
After multiple family vacations, complete with reminders about how perfect those times would’ve been for Oliver to propose, he finally came up with a plan. He made sure that Ellie and Megan had their nails painted (those were part of his instructions) and planned out a proposal that would surprise Megan (that was also part of his instructions) all while making it seem like he hadn’t actually planned a thing!
Now that Oliver finally proposed, we can’t wait to celebrate with an awesome party with all of our closest friends! So we’re absolutely thrilled to have you join us next August as we continue on this magical journey of our lives together!
