What should I expect from a Catholic Nuptial Mass?
The Nuptial Mass follows a similar structure to the typical Catholic Mass. It includes singing hymns, reading from the Old and New Testaments, and the consecration and distribution of Holy Communion. Unlike the typical mass, it includes the bridal procession and exchanging of vows and rings between the couple. All are welcome to celebrate with us, whether you are Catholic or not. The Mass will last about an hour.
Can I receive Holy Communion at the Nuptial Mass?
Catholics believe that the bread and wine brought to the altar during the Mass are truly, substantially and really changed into the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ through the priest’s “Eucharistic Prayer of Consecration.”
Because reception of Holy Communion implies both a belief in this doctrine as well as sacramental communion with the Catholic Church it is reserved to fully practicing Catholics in good standing. During the distribution of Communion, we kindly ask anyone else to either remain in their seat or receive a blessing from the priest, indicated by crossing your arms in an X across your chest.
