I'm an out-of-town guest. What lodging is available for the weekend?
We've reserved a block of rooms at Ann Arbor Marriott Ypsilanti at Eaglecrest for our guests so they can celebrate with us all weekend! Head to the Travel tab of this website to book your room. Fairfield Inn & Suites Ann Arbor and the Hampton Inn and Suites Ypsilanti, located on James L. Hart Parkway, are also in the area, should you wish to stay offsite.
What's the dress code for the wedding day?
We're having an Indian fusion ceremony followed by an American reception. Guests can wear formal Indian attire if they wish or American cocktail attire for both the ceremony and reception.
What parking is available?
Parking is available in the main lot of our hotel venue. Self-parking for the day is $5 per day. Self-parking for overnight guests is $15 a night. Valet parking is also available at $17 dollars per day and $35 per night for overnight guests.
What time does the ceremony start?
Our ceremony will start at 2 p.m., but we'd like guest to come around 1 p.m. so they can participate in the Baraat. A tradition in Hindu weddings, this celebratory wedding procession will begin around 1:15 p.m. and escort the groom to our ceremony site.
I've never attended an Indian wedding before. What can I expect?
The festivities will kick off with a Baraat, a unique wedding entrance where guests help escort the groom to the ceremony. This up-beat procession often includes high-energy music and dancing.
The wedding ceremony will include important traditions like the Ganesh Puja, an opening prayer to Ganesh to remove obstacles and ensure the ceremony runs smoothly. Our ceremony will also include Saptapadi, or seven steps around the holy fire. Our officiant will translate rituals throughout the ceremony so that unfamiliar guests can follow along. We'll also provide a program that breaks down rituals and their significance.
Following the ceremony, our cocktail hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. Our reception will include speeches, dinner, and dancing!
