Julien and Megan first crossed paths in December 2022 when the Young Adults Pastor invited a group of young adults to lunch with his former youth student who had recently moved to Saskatoon from Woodstock, ON. Julien, however, was far too nervous to talk to any girls that day—so the two didn’t exchange a word. Fast forward to spring 2023: Megan joined the Life Group Julien was in, and that summer the group basically turned into a spikeball-and-gelato club. Somewhere between sets of spikeball and late-night snacks, their paths finally started to cross.

Megan’s first real memory of Julien? Watching him eat a spoonful of grass because he lost a game of What Are the Odds. (That’s when she knew he was boyfriend material, obviously.) Their friendship grew through more games, Friendsgiving dinners, and Julien bravely volunteering as Megan’s IV practice patient for nursing school.

By the next spring, the two joined a volleyball team together. After the final game of the season, they went for ice cream and a walk by the river with friends. That’s when Julien started realizing his feelings for Megan were more than just friendship.

In September, Julien’s sister came to visit and immediately noticed the connection between them. After a few days of pestering Julien to finally ask Megan out, he nervously tricked her into lunch—for he was too scared to ask her on a date.

The “non-date” was great. Julien went home, wrote a script of what to say, and called Megan to ask her on a real date. Megan’s response? A very casual: “Ok.”

Megan was still confused—was this lunch, or a date? She paid, so it wasn’t clear. A couple days later Julien called again and asked her out for dinner. Halfway through, he nervously asked: “So… is this a date?” “I don’t know, is it?” Megan replied. “…Yes” Julien responded. And that was the start of their dating adventures (plus a few northern lights sightings).

On a double date, a friend boldly asked if they were “official” yet. Julien seized the moment—too soon—asking Megan to be his girlfriend right then and there. Cue the facepalms and laughs from across the table. He tried again later that night, driving home on Circle Drive, and this time Megan, (though half asleep), said yes.

They went on their first big trip: skiing in Canmore. It was Julien’s first time skiing in the mountains, and their first time trapped in a car together for hours. Good news—they still liked each other afterward.

They went to their first wedding together in Calgary. A road trip, family visits, and more memories just the two of them—proof that road trips were kind of their thing.

While camping in Cypress Hills, they set off on a grueling hike with friends. At the top of a cliff with a stunning valley view, Julien dropped to one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?” Megan said yes… then immediately laughed maniacally for 15 minutes straight asking if this was real life. And the rest? Well, it’s just beginning.
