Afternoon Cavern Tour

October 19, 2024
2:15 PM–3:45 PM
Grand Caverns
5 Grand Cavern Road, Grottoes, VA, 24441, United States
Attire: Bring layers (the caverns are 55 degrees year round so you might get chilly) and comfortable walking shoes! Dress comfy and ready to explore with us (bonus points for festive, autumnal, or Halloween inspired outfits or costumes)!
*We need to book the cave tour in advance so last minute sign-ons may not be accepted. The tour begins promptly at 2:30pm so please arrive 15 minutes early (2:15pm). Please meet in the building atop the hill to the right of the main Grand Caverns Gift Shop (Stone Lodge) building by the parking lot (the cave entrance is in this building). If you have any questions the employees in the Gift Shop can direct you. After the tour, we will all make our way to Picnic Shelter #2.

Dinner & Hangout

Saturday, October 19, 2024
4:00 PM–7:00 PM
Attire: Bring umbrellas and layers in case of rain or cold! Dress comfy and ready to mingle with humans and pumpkins alike (bonus points for festive, autumnal, or Halloween inspired outfits or costumes)!
There are various shelters on the property but we have Picnic Shelter #2 reserved for our party (there will be signs marked "Zimet" but also look for the large stone fireplace and lots of pumpkins). If you get lost or are confused, Grand Caverns employees in the main Gift Shop (Stone Lodge) building will be happy to assist you. There is additional parking closer to the picnic shelters. The picnic area is fully covered and bathrooms are on the property. Come hang with us until sundown (approximately 7pm)! Buffet style food and dessert will be served. Join us for kibitzing, feasting, pumpkin painting or carving, and roasting marshmallows and weenies over the fire. You might show up empty handed but you'll be leaving with at least one pumpkin and a handful of treats!

Morning after brew and brunch

Sunday, October 20, 2024
Cabin in Verona, VA
813 Lea Port Road, Verona, VA, 24482, USA
Attire: Come as you are!
Join us the morning after the party to say hello and farewell over coffee, tea, and breakfast treats! We'd love to see you! Signal might be iffy in the mountains so we encourage you to download directions for offline use. Please contact us with any questions! Here is what our AirBnB host sent us regarding directions: "Coming from North: -81 South to Exit 235 (Weyers Cave) - Turn right off the exit ramp onto Weyers Cave Rd toward US-11, Mt. Sidney -At the light ahead, Turn left onto Lee Hwy - Rte 11 - Drive 4.5 miles and turn right onto Rt 742 - Willow Spout Rd (just past the Augusta Military Academy Museum) If you pass the Historical Marker for the Willow Spout, you have just missed the turn - Drive 1.3 miles and Willow Spout Road ends....turn left onto Leaport Rd - Drive 0.4 miles and the driveway is on the right. You will most likely miss it, I always did the first few times! Look for the post with a red circle reflector on it and it’s marked with black numbers indicating "813" *be careful pulling in. If you have low profile car, just drive slow since there is a slight steep angle. Pulling into the driveway this way shouldn't be an issue. And when you leave, drive forward coming out the other end. When you are leaving, pull straight through and you may have to make a bit of a 3 point turn to go back down Leaport Road. Don't worry, this road is not very busy and I have actually parked my car there in that Y intersection in order to shovel snow. Coming from South: -81 North to exit 227 (SR-612 toward Verona) - Turn left off the exit onto Laurel Hill Rd (Rt 612) toward Verona - Drive 1.1 miles and turn right onto Lee Hwy at the stoplight (Walgreens is on your right) - Drive 2.7 miles and turn left onto Rt 742 - Willow Spout Rd (just past the Historical Marker for the Willow Spout, its a big raised wooden box thing with a water spout coming out of it. Its' actually quite interesting if you can pull over and check it out), if you pass The Augusta Military Academy Museum) you have just missed the turn - Drive 1.3 miles and Willow Spout Road ends....turn left onto Leaport Rd - Drive 0.4 miles and the driveway is on the right. You will most likely miss it, I always did the first few times! Look for the post with a red circle reflector on it and it’s marked with black numbers indicating "813" *be careful pulling in.
