Where is the party?
Our party will be held at Grand Caverns in Grottoes, VA. Grottoes is a quaint small town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a 2 1/2 hour drive from the Washington, DC area and a 3 1/2 hour drive from the Durham, NC area.
How should I get there?
You'll need a car to get to Grottoes. The nearest large airport is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), which is a 2 1/2 hour drive from the caverns. Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport (CHO) is also a good option as it is about an hour drive away form the caverns. Shenandoah Airport (SHD) is close by but it's very small and expensive.
What sort of lodging is available?
There are a limited number of AirBnBs and Vrbos available in Grottoes but there are plenty of lodging options in nearby towns and cities. Harrisonburg is about a 25 minute drive north of Grottoes and Staunton is about 30 minutes south.
Day trip or overnight stay?
For those living in the DC or Triangle areas who don't mind a day of driving, this could be a day trip! The cavern tour won't start until the afternoon and we all have to leave the park by sundown so y'all won't need to hit the road too too late.
Should I go on the cavern tour?
The cavern tour is totally optional and might not be ideal for everyone. Guided walking tours at Grand Caverns last approximately 70-80 minutes and involve going up and down several flights of stairs, traversing slippery wet ground, and the occasional bat encounter. It is not recommended for people with mobility issues, claustrophobia, or fear of the dark. No kiddos under the age of 3 are permitted (unfortunately). No pets or service animals are allowed. The cave is not ADA accessible and wheelchairs and walkers are not allowed. We chose the most common and family friendly walking cavern tour option so don't worry – there will be no crawling or squeezing through tight spaces!

What should I wear?
Come ready to explore, hangout, and relax with us outside and inside the Blue Ridge Mountains! Bonus points for festive, autumnal, or Halloween-inspired outfits or costumes! Fingers crossed we'll get some sunshine... but plan to bring umbrellas and layers in case of rain or cold. The picnic area is fully covered. If you're joining us for the cavern tour, definitely bring comfortable walking shoes. The caverns are 55 degrees year round so bring layers. Outside weather in Grottoes in mid October averages around 45-65 degrees.
What is the venue like?
There are several picnic shelters on the property but we will have daytime access until sundown to Shelter #2, which is a permanent covered structure with picnic tables and a large stone fireplace. Public restrooms are on the property. There is plenty of free parking on the property and it is a short walk from the cavern gift shop, cavern opening, and picnic shelter.
Can I bring my pet?
No pets please! Only bats, spiders, and snakes allowed.
Will we get to see you the day after the party?
We would love to spend more time with you while you're here! Before we head out of town, we will be at our AirBnB cabin in Verona, VA on Sunday morning. Please let us know through the RSVP form on this website if you plan on being around on Sunday morning (October 20) for breakfast and treats so we can figure out a good plan for everyone.
Can we bring a plus one?
Please reach out to us and let us know if you want to bring someone!
Did you add an extra "g" to your name??
Yes! Good eye! It's not a typo!
Saul and I got married on Easter so as a joke we added an extra "g" to my name so that it'd say "egg"... and it stuck!
What if we want to give you a gift?
Why thank you! We want to buy property some day so any funds we receive will go towards our future home! We will graciously accept gifts at the event, via mail, or through Venmo.
