Family friendly hikes:
- We highly recommend heading to Vail Mountain and doing the hike from the Eagle Bahn Gondola to the Mid-Vail Gondola. This would mean you’d pay to take either gondola up the mountain, once you arrive to the top you can take a well marked hiking trail to the other gondola and take that back down the mountain. The trail is less then a mile with little elevation gain. One you get to the bottom you can take the bus right back to where you parked.
- If you want a bit more of a challenge- you can also hike the Berry Picker trail up Vail Mountain and take the gondola back down.
- Five Senses Beaver Creek Hike- this is a fairly short hike along a beautiful river that starts from Beaver Creek Village. If you’re looking for lunch and maybe a quick stroll with some pretty views beside the ski runs, but not too challenging- this is your hike :). The bride brings her Kindergarten class on this hike every year.
- Beaver Lake Hike- this hike begins right past the five senses hike- a bit more challenging and offers a beautiful alpine lake at the top. It’s a 6 mile roundtrip hike and you can typically do it in about 2-3 hours depending on your pace.
- Berry Creek trail: this trail is in the town of Edwards on the north side of the highway - the trail head is located very close to the Edwards exit off 70. The hike is on a dirt road that’s well maintained so it’s easy to hike with groups. You can hike as far as you’d like and head back. This hike has pretty views of Beaver Creek Mountain. This would be nice if you’re staying in Edwards and you’d like to get a nice stroll with some pretty views in.
Day adventures the bride and groom recommend:
- Take a day trip to the town of Leadville- the highest city in North America. It’s a beautiful drive there and the town has cute shops, beautiful views and lots of history! On the way back we recommend stopping in Red Cliff to have lunch or a margarita at Mango’s on their roof top patio.
- Take a drive through beautiful Glenwood Canyon and go to the multiple options of hot springs. We love Iron Mountain hot springs. The drive through the canyon is totally worth it as the views are beautiful. Slope and Hatch tacos are our go to when we’re in Glenwood but there are also plenty of great food options.
- Take a drive to Shrine Pass and see the wild flowers with some amazing views of the Gore Range. You’ll need a car with some clearance as this is on a dirt road, however, it is well maintained. You can also take this drive from 70 - over into Red Cliff and then take the drive from Red Cliff through the town of Minturn and back into the Vail area which is a beautiful drive! Do not do this drive if you’re afraid of heights is all.
- Drive up to the beautiful Piney Lake- one of our absolute favorite views in the valley- truly an epic spot for a photo and small hike around part of the lake. We love bringing visitors here because it’s so special. You’ll need a high clearance car as this is a dirt road - it takes about 40 minutes to drive there from the town of Vail. There is also a bar for lunch and/or a drink up here.
- the Minturn Farmers market is on Saturdays and the Vail Farmers Market is on Sundays. Both are very nice and offer tons of vendors to check out and lots of great food!
- Nottingham Lake in the town center of Avon- there is a sandy beach here where kids can play and swim. You can rent stand up paddle boards, there is a sand volley bar court, a park, a large grass field to play sports etc.
