The Auf Ruf is a celebration that takes place in the synagogue the Shabbat before the wedding. As part of the regular Shabbat service, the bride and groom are called up to the Torah for an honor called an aliyah. “Auf Ruf” in German means, “to be called up.” After the Torah is read, candy is thrown at the bride and groom.
