The Manatees

Rehabilitation

The Bishop has been rehabilitating manatees since 1998. The Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat is a Stage 2 facility, which means it provides a place for manatees to gain weight and exposure to natural foods and feeding strategies after their initial critical care.

Currently, the facility is caring for three new manatees, each with their own unique stories of resilience and hope. Their names are Morado, Wicket, and Klondike.

We can't wait to party with them.

Morado and Wicket are juvenile male manatees rescued due to cold stress syndrome. Wicket, who was rescued from Bear Creek in St. Petersburg, also had a boat strike injury. Morado was rescued from Coffee Pot Bayou in St. Petersburg. Both Manatees weigh in the mid-300-pound range and will be considered for release in winter 2025.

Manatee threats

Manatees face threats from humans, including boat strikes, entanglement in fishing gear, and being crushed by floodgates or locks.
