Let me set the scene… February 18, 2022. Saturday night at The Windjammer in Isle of Palms. Kids in America, an 80’s band from Charlotte, was live on stage.
I met up with my friend Mitch who was there with some friends from The Sage Apartments where he lived. One of those friends was Shanna… 5’2”, golden brown skin, makeup on point, and damn those jeans were tight! So naturally, I had to dance with her.
Later, we spent about an hour outside on the deck just talking. We shared stories, laughs and drinks. Shanna, like me, is divorced and at the ‘Jammer just looking to have a good time. Neither of us was expecting to find love.
Upon returning to the dance floor, Kids in America (remember that 80’s band I mentioned) began playing one of the greatest love songs of all time… “Love Shack” by The B-52s. And after a couple shimmies, shakes and hip thrusts, we were making out like a couple of teenagers (or a couple of tipsy adults). Then, during the band break, the DJ played Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” followed by “Bump and Grind” by R. Kelly. What a trifecta of all-time classics!
Anyway, the rest is history. Now, when we’re not attending games or events for one of our 5 kids, we spend our evenings cooking together and listening to country music or watching Family Feud, Saturdays watching UNC anything, and Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays cheering for the Eagles (and eventually the Panthers, but they stink right now).
Thanks for taking the time to read Our Story. We are excited to share this wonderful occasion with all of you.
