The Story of Michael and Nerissa
In October 2020 Nerissa was struck down by a terrible event that changed both of our lives forever. She had a very severe reaction to a drug called carbamazepine. The reaction is called Stevens Johnson Syndrome/Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis. It caused severe burns to about 30% of her body including her eyes. She was blinded for about 4-5 days. She was airlifted in a jet ambulance medivac to a hospital thousands of miles away (Critical Care Burn Center at Harborview Hospital in Seattle). We think the doctors there saved her life. At Harborview, Michael was drafted into being her personal nurse and caregiver for about 5 weeks (notice the word "drafted," as in: not volunteered).
Michael learned all the skills of being a nurse, which for him was rather miraculous since he has been a very successful private investor for the past 10 years and knows nothing about nursing.
Michael took a crash course in nursing and learned to trim dead skin, help administer all kinds of treatments, lotions, salves, eye drops, and change gauze dressings.
How many stories have you read about nurses falling in love with their patients?????? It happened to us, too.
