Nick and Michaela met on Feburary 20th, 2018. They both attended Capital University. Michaela was a First-Year and Nick was a sophomore when their paths first crossed. They had various mutual friends, but it would take an awkward exchange for them to actually start talking. Michaela was exiting Battelle Hall (the science building) and saw Nick talking to a friend. She waved at him and he did not wave back immediately, as the sun was in his eyes and he did not see her. They struck up a conversation on Instagram about the funny interaction, and Michaela invited Nick to see her improv group that day.

Nick and Michaela remained friends for nearly two more years as they continued their studies at Capital. Nick studied Music Technology and Michaela studied Theatre and Visual Art. Nick attended almost every one of Michaela's shows.

On January 2nd 2020, Nick and Michaela established their relationship.

Michaela and Nick's first official date was two weeks later on January 16th. They saw Parasite (2019) at the Drexel Theater, across the street from Capital University. This was the first of hundreds of movies that they would watch and discuss together over the next several years.

In May of 2020, amidst the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nick graduated with his Bachelors of Arts in Music Technology from Capital University.

In September of 2020, Nick moved into an apartment in Hilliard, Ohio with his friend of fourteen years, Nick Davenport. They were affectionately known as The Nicks amongst their Columbus friend groups. Michaela spent most weekends at the Hilliard apartment playing Trivial Pursuit and drinking homemade cocktails with The Nicks.

To celebrate their first anniversary, Nick and Michaela stayed two nights in the Mills Park Hotel in Yellow Springs. As COVID-19 was still highly circulated, Nick and Michaela celebrated the New Year drinking champagne in their hotel room and watching the original Willy Wonka movie.

In May of 2021, Michaela graduated from Capital University with her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies with a minor in Studio Art. To prevent the spread of COVID, admission to the graduation ceremony was strictly limited to two guests per graduate. Nick and Anne-Marie watched a live stream of Michaela and Geoff graduating on Anne-Marie's iPad. They met up outside on campus afterwards, to celebrate.

In September of 2021, Nick and Michaela made their first trip together to New York city. The highlight of their trip was a helicopter tour of the Hudson River, and seeing the Big Band perform at the Birdland Jazz club. They would return in November of 2021 for Michaela's birthday and see To Kill a Mockingbird on Broadway, starring Jeff Daniels as Atticus Finch.

In March of 2022, Nick moved into Michaela's apartment in Old North. They would live here together until September of 2022, when they signed a lease for their first house together in Clintonville.

In August of 2022, Nick and Michaela made their first international trip together. They spent nine days traveling south from Munich, Germany, through Fussen, Germany, and into Italy where they visited Venice, Florence, and Rome.

On August 2nd of 2023, Nick and Michaela traveled to New York City again. Michaela knew that the engagement was going to happen, but not when or where. During their first evening, Nick surprised Michaela with tickets to an evening jazz cruise on the Hudson River. When the boat passed the Statue of Liberty, they went out to "take pictures," and Nick popped the question.
