What will the weather be like?
In the past, there have been hot Junes (we swam at the beach) and chilly Junes (didn't want to swim). There is a big difference from night to day, shade to sun. Bring light layers that you can easily carry around with you.
During the day, you will want shorts and a short sleeved top or tank top. At night, you will probably want to add a shawl, scarf, light sweater, or linen pants.
The mosquitoes aren't usually bad at this time of year.
Key Information
Check currency and bank options. Many places don't accept American Express but Mastercard and Visa are fine. Currency exchange places usually have high fees, so I would avoid that.
Currently, American citizens don't need a visa to enter Spain.
There are no longer any COVID restrictions.
What should I bring with me?
Comfortable shoes! Granada is mainly cobblestones and there are lots of surrounding hills and mountains. It is important to wear comfortable shoes that you can walk in all day long.
Bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, sun hat, small daypack or cross body bag, sunglasses, travel adaptors and a reusable water bottle.
You can get anything in Granada in case you forget something important. There are pharmacies on every corner.
What can I expect at the wedding and reception?
Spanish weddings are very fun (and long). The ceremony will begin around 7:00 pm. After, we will go on to cocktail hour where there will be lots of traditional hors d'oeuvres from the Granada, Sevilla and Cadiz. Save room for dinner which begins around 9:30 pm and ends before midnight. Coffee from my favorite cafe will be served to reenergize you for all the dancing to come. Around 3:00-4:00 am, "second dinner" will be served. Most weddings go on until 7:00 am but our venue closes at 5:00 am. (expect Spaniards to be dancing and socializing until then).
Take it slow and steady to make it through the night.
How do I get to the wedding venue?
The venue is a 15 minute walk uphill towards the Alhambra. There are buses, taxis and parking spots available. If you are staying in the hotel next door, you can easily walk to the venue in a couple of minutes. If you are in the city center, I recommend taking a short taxi ride that will drop you at the entrance. (about 10 minutes)
How can I move around in Granada?
Granada is a very small city. Everything is in walking distance. There are also tourist city buses that can pick you up/drop you off if you aren't in the mood for walking.
What about dietary restrictions or allergies at the wedding?
We can accommodate any restrictions, please let me know ASAP.
Who can I contact for more information?
Michelle or Cathy Carney!
You can email me at carneymichelle12@gmail.com or imessage me at +34656607689
I don't speak Spanish, will that be a problem?
Not at all, Granada is a touristic city and many people speak English.
What is Whatsapp?
I encourage you all to download the APP Whatsapp for the wedding week. That way we can have a group chat, answer any questions, share locations, recommendations, photos, etc.
What should I wear to the wedding?
The attire is formal, so suit and tie, floor-length gown, dressy paintsuit or fancy cocktail dress. But as I mentioned, please feel free to come as you would like! We understand that formal attire takes up too much precious suitcase space.
We will be in the gardens for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. The dance floor will be inside the beautiful carmen. You may want a light scarf.
The ground in the gardens could get your hems dirty, so keep that in mind.
The ground is mainly flat, few cobblestones, so heels won't be an issue.
Granada has great shopping. If you'd like to get your clothes and accessories here, just let me know and I will send you store recommendations.
Can I drink the tap water?
Yes, the water comes from the Sierra Nevada mountains. There are water fountains throughout the city, so I would bring a reusable bottle to fill up.
What is the Spanish schedule like? THIS IS IMPORTANT
Please check out "dining recommendations" for information
Paella
Check under Dining Recommendations. Please only eat it at lunchtime!
Is Granada considered safe?
Absolutely, but always take precautions.
Am I supposed to tip?
Tipping has become more common in recent years, mainly in Barcelona and Madrid. It is NOT expected with any service in Andalusia. If you had a lovely sit-down meal and would like to leave some change, that is fine. Personally, we leave around 1 euro to 10 euros depending on the price of the meal (usually in the 1-3 euro range).
If you go on a tour with a guide, then you may want to leave a small tip.
Why are there women around popular monuments handing out rosemary?
DO NOT take the rosemary. They will demand money in return. If you don't give them what they want, they may "curse you".
Will there be a Welcome Party or group activities?
Yes! We are currently planning a welcome party, Alhambra group tour and other activities leading up to the wedding.
