Things to Do

Alhambra

C. Real de la Alhambra, s/n, 18009 Granada, Spain
958 02 79 71

Alhambra and Nasrid Palace should be booked in advance. I recommend going with a tour guide or at least using the audio guide.
I also prefer going in the morning when it is cooler. It is around 3-4 hours long so bring water, sunscreen and a snack. You will have to wear your backpack on your chest to avoid touching the walls.

Catedral de Granada

C. Gran Vía de Colón, 5, 18001 Granada, Spain
958 22 29 59

You can buy tickets on the spot. The cathedral visit takes from 30 minutes up to 2 hours.

Abadía del Sacromonte

Cam. del Sacromonte, s/n, 18010 Granada, Spain
958 22 14 45

Walk through the Albaicin and Sacromonte neighborhoods, pass the caves with flamenco music pouring out, enjoy the green hills and finally arrive at the abbey.

We wanted to choose this area for our wedding venue... It is one of our favorite places. You can tour the Abadia (I recommend it- there are interesting caves inside), but at least go visit it! The walk there is what is most enjoyable.

Wear comfortable clothes, bring a water bottle and sunscreen. It is a long walk and there are two uphills parts, so I recommend going in the morning.

You can also take the small Alhambra, getting on and off as you like.

CUEVA LA ROCIO flamenco Granada - Espectáculo y Restaurante

Cam. del Sacromonte, 70, 18010 Granada, Spain
958 22 71 29

There are many places to listen to flamenco music and see dance shows. I've been to this one several times; it's very traditional as it is in a cave. You can walk, take a taxi or take the Alhambra bus to get there.

Carmen de los Mártires

P.º de los Mártires, s/n, 18009 Granada, Spain
958 84 91 03

After visiting the Alhambra, take a walk through the gardens and see incredible views of the city.

This is where we will be getting married, but it is much larger than what you will be seeing on wedding day.

You can walk up and down the Alhambra Cuesta de Gomerez hill, take a bus or taxi.

You can stay up on top of the hill and explore the miradores (view points), mountain, trails, caves or you can stop by the Palace Hotel for a coffee. There are different paths and each has its unique charm and sites to see.

I highly recommend exploring this area. I used to live up on top of this hill, so you will see why I fell in love with this city.

Albaicín, Granada

Cta. del Chapiz, 40, 18010 Granada, Spain

Take a tour through the Moorish neighbourhood stopping at all the miradores. Wear comfortable shoes!

Walk through the City

Explore these three neighborhoods that make up Granada.

Realejo is the Jewish quarter where you wind through small cobblestone streets and see art on every corner. I love to get tapas in this area and eat at La Tana (make a reservation).

Get a good view of the Albacin by having an afternoon or evening drink at Huerto de Loro.

The Albaicin is the Moorish quarter. Take a walking tour or make your way through Paseo de los Tristes, El Palacio de Cordova and up to the Mirador de San Nicolas where you can admire the Alhambra. El Trillo (reserve) is one of our favorites for a romantic dinner or check out Juan Ranas for a drink. Have an arabic pastry and Moroccan mint tea at El Bañuelo (there's always a long line, get there right at 15:45 to not have to wait)

The Centro is of Renaissance, Gothic and Baroque history. Walk through all the plazas, get churros at Cafe Alhambra, admire churches and monasteries or go up to a rooftop bar like Lemon Rock (concerts), BHeaven (sometimes has concerts) or Monasterio Chill Out. Have sangria at La Sitarilla or wait in line for the famous "Jamon Asado" tapa at Avila.

You MUST try "piononos", a traditional pastry from Granada, at any Ysla cafe.

Hammam Al Ándalus

C. Sta. Ana, 16, 18009 Granada, Spain
958 91 31 25

Spend time getting a massage in the Arab baths

Pampaneira

A-4132, 10, 18411 Pampaneira, Granada, Spain

About 45 minutes from Granada are several villages called la Alpujarra.

Go hiking on one of the trails or just stop to walk around the city. Visit the artesanal shops and buy local products like honey, chocolate, sausages and cheeses.

Have a massive traditional meal at Casa Julio and stop for coffee with a view at Ruta Mulhacen. Don't forget to stop by Bodega la Moralea to take a picture.
