Mickala and Duncan's love story began in the fall of 2019 at Michigan Technological University, where they were both pursuing degrees in Mechanical Engineering Technology.

Mickala was oblivious to all the moves that Duncan was making, from inviting her to breakfast to spending time with the boys on Friday nights. After months of building a strong friendship, including movie nights in Hancock and skiing on Mont.Ripley, everything changed in late January 2020 when Mickala surprised Duncan by taking him to Breakers to see the ice on Lake Superior. Duncan decided that it was time to take their friendship to the next level.

Fast forward through long-distance dating, a year of online college (providing endless time to adventure in the UP), and enjoying everything the Northwoods has to offer, Duncan knew that it was time to once again take their relationship to the next level. In June 2024, Duncan proposed at 6:30 am at High Rock (Tip of the Keweenaw, their favorite camping spot) while they were out looking for agates and other rocks. Little did Mickala know that she would leave the beach that morning with the best rock of them all.

These two snow-loving, adventure-seeking, and Northern Light hunters are so excited and ready to start their new life together.
