From Værnes Airport to the Trondheim you could either take the train or bus to Trondheim S. However, trian (R70) only goes once every hour. Tickets can be bought at https://www.vy.no/ or by using the Atb mobile app. If using AtB app be sure to buy tickets for the train not the bus.
If you want to take the bus, you could use Værnesexpressen (https://en.vaernesekspressen.no/) to purchase your ticket. This bus can be found right outside the luggage hall and comes every 15 min. Its cheaper if you buy your tickets online compared to buying it on the bus terminal.
Almost all busses in Trondheim lead to Nidarosdomen. Download the AtB app on your phone which is where you can purchase your ticket and find the fastest route to your destination.
