Where to eat

Surrounded by world-renowned wine estates, farmland and rich coast, Cape Town has an abundance of fantastic food to offer. The list is truly endless but below you will find just some of our favourite restaurants.

The Test Kitchen. www.thetestkitchen.co.za. Consistently ranked on The World's 50 Best Restaurants List, this is a must for serious foodies. Bookings for November open on 1st October, make a note in your diary!

The Pot Luck Club. www.thepotluckclub.co.za. Like The Test Kitchen, The Pot Luck Club is situated in The Old Biscuit Mill, Woodstock. Boasting stunning views over Cape Town, the food comes on small plates designed for sharing. The menu is divided by taste profiles (salty, sweet, sour, bitter and umami) and you can expect an adventurous dining experience.

La Colombe. www.lacolombe.co.za. This fine-dining establishment is one of South Africa's best restaurants. A beautiful location in Constantia, about 20 minutes outside of Cape Town. Best to book as soon as possible.

95 Keerom. www.95keerom.com. Centrally located just off Long Street, 95 Keerom offers authentic Italian food. One of the most stylish restaurants in Cape Town with pale wood, glass and exposed brick. It is directly opposite its' sister restaurant Carne, a must for serious meat eaters but not recommended for vegetarians! www.carne-sa.com.

Societi Bistro. www.societi.co.za. A relaxed Italian restaurant with a cozy bar (called 'The Snug'). They refer to themselves as a neighbourhood local, a sanctuary for CapeTonians and visitors looking for a home from home. Expect good quality, unpretentious food.

The Roundhouse. www.theroundhouserestaurant.com. With stunning views overlooking Camps Bay and the Twelve Apostles, the rolling gardens of The Roundhouse is a perfect spot for a lazy lunch. The outside section is called The Rumbullion where you can enjoy tapas-style food served in a picnic hamper.

The Mount Nelson Hotel. www.belmond.com/mount-nelson-hotel-cape-town/afternoon_tea. Enjoy the beautiful gardens of The Mount Nelson Hotel whilst savoring over a decadent spread of afternoon treats. A quiet retreat in the heart of Cape Town, the views of Table Mountain are spectacular. Make sure you go with an empty stomach to get your moneys worth!

Cape Town Weather

What to expect

Just like England, Cape Town can have four seasons in one day so please be prepared for some hot sun, cooler evenings and perhaps the odd shower of rain. Summer officially starts on December 1st so hopefully Cape Town will cooperate and the weather will be nice and warm. The sun here is extremely strong, in summer temperatures can easily rise to 35 degrees so hats and plenty of sun lotion are recommended. Cape Town is also known for its strong wind from the South-east, referred to as the Cape Doctor as it clears the city of debris and smog. We are hoping that it doesn't blow on our big day but please prepare for this possibility. As our wedding venue is further inland in Paarl, it is likely that the temperatures will be much higher than in Cape Town.

Getting Around Cape Town

The best way to get around Cape Town is by car. Taxis are a good and convenient choice for going short distances and to get around the city bowl but you may want to rent a car to explore further a field. Uber is well established and extremely efficient in Cape Town, you can continue to use your existing account whilst you are here. As in England, unmarked taxis are not safe so please only use registered taxi companies.

Excite – 021 448 4444

Intercab – 021 44 777 99/55

Marine Taxis – 021 434 0434

Renting a car is a fantastic way to see more of this beautiful country. The road infrastructure is excellent and navigating your way around is relatively straightforward. There are plenty of international and local car rental companies to choose from conveniently located at the main airports and city centres. However, South Africa does have a high rate of traffic accidents so please exercise extreme caution when on the roads, especially at night. Drivers of minibuses tend to ignore the rules of the road and are known for weaving in and out of lanes and stopping suddenly, best to give them a wide berth! It's a good idea to drive with your doors locked, especially in city centres and at traffic lights.
