We hope that many of you will be able to enjoy a holiday during your visit to Cape Town. With stunning beaches and breathtaking scenery, there is so much to see and do. Here are just a few of our top picks!
Paarl is the third-oldest town in South Arica and in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Below are a few things to see and do in Paarl and the surrounding areas:
Spice Route – www.spiceroute.co.za Located next to our wedding venue, Spice Route is a beautiful estate with magnificent views. There are some interesting shops and galleries to browse, different restaurants to enjoy as well as wine and chocolate tasting. Well worth a visit.
Fairview Wine and Cheese – www.fairview.co.za A mere 800m from Spice Route, Fairview is another lovely local spot to explore. The Goatshed Restaurant is open from 9am-5pm and is great place for a meal or just for tea. Obviously Fairview also offers fantastic wines and artisanal cheeses! There is a wine and cheese tasting room, a shop and deli and a goat tower which houses the resident goats.
Babylonstoren – www.babylonstoren.com A short drive from Diamant Estate towards Franschhoek, Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms with beautiful fruit and vegetable gardens, fine food, luxurious accommodation and a spa. There is also wine tasting, a farm shop and guided tours of the farm and the cellar (booking required). There is an entrance fee of R10 per person which is donated to the Babylonstoren trust for the education of local children. One of our favourite spots in this neck of the woods.
KWV Wine Emporium – www.kwvwineemporium.co.za Known for their brandy, at KWV you can book a cellar tour or try one of several tastings on offer including sparkling wine and nougat tasting and brandy pairing with fudge.
Drakenstein prison – located just outside of Paarl. Where Nelson Mandela spent his last years of captivity.
Golf Courses - The Paarl Golf Course on the Boschenmeer Estate www.boschenmeergolf.co.za Pearl Valley Golf Course - www.pearlvalley.co.za
Stellenbosch and Franschhoek are within a thirty minute drive from Paarl and definitely worth exploring if you have time. The Franschhoek Wine Tram hop-on hop-off tour is a fun way to get around and to see the most of the beautiful Franschhoek valley. www.winetram.co.za
