Both Rainbow Falls and Turtleback Falls are located in Gorges State Park. From the Grassy Ridge parking lot, the Rainbow Falls Trail is a 1.5 mile descent until reaching Rainbow Falls. From there the trail turns into the Turtleback Falls that is another 0.5 miles leading to an additional waterfall and a swimming area (if choose to swim, please do so with caution due to strong current).

Rainbow Falls is 3 miles roundtrip, and Rainbow Falls + Turtleback Falls is 4 miles roundtrip. Parking lot: 976 Grassy Ridge Rd, Sapphire, NC 28774

A landmark in the Nantahala National Forest, Whiteside Mountain rises to an elevation of 4,930 feet. It's located between Cashiers and Highlands, North Carolina, on US Highway 64. Although it's a 30-40 minute drive from Lake Toxaway, it's worth the view! The hike is a moderate 2 mile loop trail.

Highlands, Cashiers and Brevard are a 25-45 minute scenic drive away from Lake Toxaway. They all have quaint downtown areas with shops and restaurants.
