Thursday in the Fort Worth Stockyards

131 E Exchange Ave, Fort Worth, TX 76164, USA

If you’re in town early, saddle up for an iconic Fort Worth evening in the legendary Stockyards on Thursday, April 16!

For those craving a true Texas experience, this is the place. We’ll be catching the cattle drive at 4:00 PM (there’s one at 11am and 4pm everyday), then heading out for a night of Texas bars, live music, and good old-fashioned honky-tonkin’.

Expect some two-steppin’, line-dancin’, and plenty of boots, bourbon, and some Texas moments.

Come and go, but let us know if you'll join!— Text Dan or Morg:)

Explore Fort Worth—

There’s so much to see in Fort Worth! We’ll all head to the Stockyards on Thursday for that iconic Texas experience, but be sure to check out Downtown Fort Worth too—it’s super cute, walkable, and safe. Other fun areas to explore include South Main, known for its great bars, restaurants, and breweries, and Magnolia Ave, another local favorite full of hipster charm, food, and bars. Don’t miss the Clearfork area for upscale shopping and dining, or the Cultural District near Camp Bowie, home to museums and great local spots. And of course, take a stroll around TCU, where Morg went—Go Frogs! (We’ll share our specific recs in other sections!)

Downtown Fort Worth—

Check out Sundance Square for people-watching, catch a comedy show at Hyena’s, or enjoy some live jazz at the hidden gem Scat Jazz Lounge. And don’t forget to treat yourself to local ice cream at Melt—with multiple locations, it’s easy to find a sweet spot!

When in Texas…

You have to try Texas BBQ! Some of our favorites are Heim BBQ, Railhead Smokehouse, and Smoke & Bone (a killer food truck parked at a local brewery). Also, Terry Black's has come to FW from Austin. It is un poquito expensive but great!

Tex-Mex Is A Must!!

You can’t come to Texas without having Mexican food—from authentic street tacos to classic Tex-Mex! For tacos, we love Taqueria Temo near the Stockyards and Salsa Limon. For Tex-Mex, try Uncle Julio’s or Blue Goose (don’t miss their $2 Tuesday happy hour margs!). And of course, no Fort Worth visit is complete without Joe T. Garcia’s—a true local staple (cash only).

Burgers

If you’re craving a great burger while in Fort Worth, head to Rodeo Goat for creative, award-winning combinations or stop by the local classic Kincaid’s for an old-school Texas favorite. GUSTOS for a tasty smash burger! And if you just want something quick, our go-to fast-food pick is Braum’s—don’t skip the shake!

Fav International Cuisines

A few of our Fort Worth favorites: For Italian, we love Olivella’s and have been wanting to try Bocca Osteria Romana. For ramen, you can’t go wrong with Hanabi Ramen & Izakaya or Wabi House. Sushi lovers—try Blue Sushi Sake Grill. For Mediterranean, our go-tos are Terra Mediterranean and Danny’s Greek Cafe. For something casual, grab Coco Shrimp or a sandwich from The Great Outdoors.

If You're Feeling Boujee—

If you’re in the mood to treat yourself, Fort Worth has plenty of spots to indulge in style. Don Artemio serves up elevated Mexican fare in a stunning space. The Chumley House is perfect for an elegant night out, and Bricks and Horses at the Bowie House is one of our go-tos—especially for a cocktail at the bar. Or, head to another iconic Fort Worth hotel for dinner at 97 West Kitchen & Bar or just sip on something special at The Drover.

Coffee & Tea in Fort Worth

For a caffeine fix, we love Fort Worth Coffee Co., Lala Land Kind Café on Camp Bowie and Cherry Coffee Shop and Avoca on Magnolia.

Tea lovers, don’t miss The Secret Garden Tea Room inside an antique mall — perfect for a cozy lunch. Or grab boba at our Fort Worth go-tos, Fruitilicious and Happy Lemon.

Breakfast Favorites—

Brewed on Magnolia Ave. is perfect for coffee and comfort food and so cute, while Ol’ South is a Fort Worth institution and not too far from TCU and Vickery Cafe serves up hearty, no-fuss classics. For a coffee shop and full breakfast vibe, head to Ascension or Press Cafe on the river.

Happy Hours to Hit—

Fort Worth knows how to do happy hour right! Start with Atlas, a chic cocktail bar on South Main known for its travel-inspired drinks. They have awesome cocktails and apps on HH! For oysters, martinis and the best $10 HH burger, Hudson House is a local favorite with half-price cocktails and bites that feel effortlessly classy. Blue Goose Cantina has festive margarita deals and Tex-Mex favorites perfect for a lively evening. Olivella’s Pizza and Wine serves up great wines and wood-fired pizza with weekday drink specials that feel straight out of Italy. And for a true laid-back classic, Showdown keeps it simple with $3 beers every day—no happy-hour timing required. Cheers to Fort Worth flavor!

Breweries & Local Drinks We Love—

If you’re looking to explore a few local gems, Fort Worth has you covered! Pop by Martin House Brewing Co. or Cowtown Brewery—and don’t miss grabbing a bite at Tia’s on the Bluff next door, home to the best loaded queso of my life. For something cozy, check out Saddlerock Wine & Beer Co., a darling spot tucked inside an old house. Want to relax outdoors? Head to Crystal Springs Hideaway Beer Garden for laid-back vibes and live music. And if whiskey’s your thing, the TX Whiskey Distillery is an absolute must. If I was going to tell you one place to get a cocktail, I would recommend getting one at the bar at the Bowie House Hotel. One of our favs and swanky! Lastly, if you want to take it back to where it all started, go to The Amber Room. This is where Morg and Dan had their first date. Mood lighting and great cocktails. Cheers!

Museums & the Cultural District—

Fort Worth’s Cultural District is full of charm and world-class art. Spend an afternoon wandering through the Kimbell Art Museum, home to masterpieces from Monet to Michelangelo, or the strikingly beautiful Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, which offers free admission on Fridays. For a dose of Western flair, visit the Sid Richardson Museum (always free!) or the National Cowgirl Museum & Hall of Fame, celebrating inspiring women of the West. Don’t miss the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, also free year-round. It’s the perfect blend of culture, creativity, and Texas spirit—all within a stroll of one another!
