Natalie and Jack met on August 26, 2016 at a pool party at Penn State which they both almost didn't go to. It was move in weekend and Natalie wanted to get settled in before embarking on her junior year in her new apartment. The roommates of the two did some extensive convincing to "just come for one drink".

The two hit it off despite Natalie's terribly overconfident volleyball skills. Jack invited Natalie to a party later that evening and asked for her number, which she gladly entered into his phone. Natalie was extremely disappointed that night because she never heard from Jack. She reached out to their mutual friend who hosted the pool party asking, "What's the deal with this Jack guy?"

Jack too was disappointed since he texted the number Natalie entered into his phone only to learn the number did not belong to Natalie. Jack also reached out to the host of the pool party asking. "What's the deal with this Natalie girl? She was totally into me!" The pool party host informed the two that there must have been some kind of misunderstanding and that he too was confused.

The next night Jack reached out to Natalie over Facebook saying "Way to give me the wrong #.." Natalie was shocked to hear from Jack and to learn that she entered the wrong # by 1 digit. She shared her actual phone number and the two began spending more and more time together.

Given Jack was a senior and Natalie was a junior with plans to take an internship in Chicago the following summer, the two were cautious not to jump into anything too serious right away and instead spent the next 4 months getting to know one another. Things started to grow more serious and over the winter break, they realized just how much they missed each other and that life was better together. After returning back to State College from the winter break, the two officially started dating on January 27, 2017.

Natalie had planned a couples trip to Cancun in January of 2022. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the trip had to be postponed and was rescheduled for September of that year. Shortly after arriving in Cancun, the couple who was in on the proposal (Rachael & Chris West) suggested we freshen up and take some nice pictures in front of the beach. Natalie was very opposed to this idea since they had just arrived and she wanted to "put her feet in the ocean and relax". It took some convincing, but Natalie finally agreed to get dressed up and "get the photos out of the way".

Jack and Natalie started off taking normal photos together and then Jack recommended they recreate a pose their friends had done for their save-the-date where they were looking away from one another. Natalie loved the idea, however she challenged Jack when he told her to go in front of him for the pose because this was not how the couple was positioned in the save-the-date. She ultimately went along with Jack's suggestion and after roughly two solid minutes of slowly walking away from Jack and posing, Natalie finally turned around to the sight of Jack on one knee.
